This is again, from a drive through the back roads of the Dandenong ranges in Victoria. I was just driving around and stopping to photograph things that caught me eye (I wound up lost too). This is a plot of land behind a farmhouse near Seville.

This was a beautiful place to be – when the children were there is became magical – every door opened wasn’t a garden it was the secret garden and we had to look for lepricorns and fairies and smell every flower and describe every tree.

Nature so is much more complex, strong and amazing than we give it credit for! And at the same time, it seems like we don’t understand how fragile it is. 2/3-2008 Thank you so much for your kind comments on my work! Words can’t describe how much that means to me. / With love from Stina.

The eye perceives light it only when it is mixed with darkness. Light itself is invisible yet our eyes see nothing without it. Light actualizes the form within being. When the single reality of pure light falls upon physical realities, they become visible, manifesting an endless array of color and dimension, a garden of rich and varied hue. Many spiritual paths teach that what unfolds in the surrounding world and within the realm of personal experience is not a black and white drawing with clearly defined endings and beginnings, no matter how obvious it may first appear. Life is far more interesting than that for every happening unfurls a shifting spectrum of color and interpretation. Its always up to us whether to aacpet and flow with something as it is happening, and looking no deepr than the surface, or to plumb deeper for multiple levels of meaning and wisdom. Its always a toss up, and there’s no right or wrong answer in these choices. This painting speaks of embracing the mixture of light and dark in life, the kaleidoscopic unification of the opposites that is life. Intergrating and balancing is the way to healing and wholeness. / Text and image copyright Helena Nelson Reed

A black and white with vignetting version of my image of Port Fairy Lighthouse. This is one of my all time favourite photographs so I thought I would share it. It was taken on a point and shoot about 3 years ago so is not available for larger prints. The flowers in the foreground of this photo have a story of their own. The bulbs of the irises were planted by the first lighthouse keepers in the garden of the long since ruined keepers house. All that remains of the house is a portion of the garden. The iris bulbs come up every spring as a reminder of what once was. Colour version is also available. This is how it looks in card form: I have this image on my wall using a black matte and charcoal frame which looks absolutely amazing and sets off the black and white image well.

Ok, I admit, I made it rain on the poor spider’s home. Not only did I chase it, but I flooded it’s home with water from spray bottle. I couldn’t wait for the real rain to fall, in case the spider’s web disappeared. All I’ve done to the image is brighten it up and place a slight little frame around bottom edge.
