It has been said that the body is the cathedral of the soul. In this painting the fallen figure, be it me or you, or the Christ before resurrection, has been shown without flesh to accentuate the relationship between the rib cage of man and the ribs of the church behind. In this case the church is real. It is the Romanesque church of the Santa Maria Monestary in Alcobaca, Portugal. The architecture is Cistercian with the choir area dating from the early 1200’s AD. The city in the background (left) is Concord, New Hampshire, where I lived and worked for many years before moving to Windham, NH recently.

Two shore birds, probably greater yellowlegs, cross beaks on a showery day on the Fern Ridge wetlands near Eugene, Oregon. October 2008.

Pont du Gard is a Roman aqueduct crossing the river Gardon near Nimes (south of France). Built by Roman engineers throughout the 1st century AD this system brought in water to the Roman town of Nemausus (Nîmes) via an impressive aqueduct system of 50 km from springs at the Fountaine d’Eure in Uzès

From an ancient guard post, some two centuries old, in the interior of a courtyard, Place des Vosges, Paris. Wondering what it has seen, what it knows.

What the eyes see. What the mind dreams.

The Pont du Gard located in Nîmes (France) was built shortly before the Christian era to allow the aqueduct of Nîmes to cross the Gard river. The Roman architects and hydraulic engineers who designed the bridge created a technical as well as an artistic masterpiece.

Shot of Sylvia, probably one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. This shot came about really randomly; my friend Ingrid wanted to do a Kill Bill themed shoot, and while they were setting up, I managed to get my trusty old microphone from 1988 and make her pretend to be singing into it like a banshee

finished today, January 10 2007 at approximately 5:45 AM Which just goes to show you that sleeplessness from the flu is not all bad. I guess! (is what it said on the other art sites info, after I uploaded this to it)

A slightly digitally altered scan of a drawing, which (said drawing) I completed on the 20th of September, 2008 whilst driving to the hospital to visit my daughter. Well, I wasn’t the one driving ....

A variation of , as it turns out, a variation. In this one, Tristan is, apparently, dreaming a sad dream, indeed. I think it’ might be of one of those lost summer loves, but, if you want to know, really, you shall have to ask Tristan.

To me, this variation has more of an old time feel to it. Perhaps, nostalgia is being waxed. Perhaps love is being waned. Perhaps Tristan sits and waits for the moon. / ........................................ / ......................................................... One can never be sure of the past, for unlike the future, it’s colors change to reflect the moods of the present. They flare, they fade and dim to naught, they move from this to that until you are no longer sure where they belong-ed. Tristan dreams of something almost remembered and, in that dreaming, calls forth colors of life once forgotten.

I needed to do something a little more creative today after days of editing my California images, so I decided to take another crack at the Forgotten Postcards series. This image was taken at the Pont du Gard aqueduct in Southern France. I’ve been to this location 3 times now, and it never ceases to amaze me how people constructed this enormous structure by hand. The best guest is that it was constructed in 19 BC. Wow. I hope you enjoy my tribute to this magnificent structure.

As an artist, I feel this is my best work. It is a self-portrait that leads off into the future, painted years ago in what I would now call my dark period. My life has changed a lot since then, and I have overcome many of the dark fears and subconscious memories, many of which are still hidden from my waking life. There is a lot of symbolism here. And, enough so that for once I will just shut my mouth and let you read it as you see it. I still enjoy seeing its design, attention to detail, and even if dark, it’s clear light. I hope you enjoy it as well. Thanks, Dave.

This is a great painting for a child’s bedroom or play area. There is a small man floating in the yellow bowl, probably dreaming, with all of his childhood imaginary friends surrounding him.
