  • A stream of a different sort, I guess. This was taken on the way up to the Boroka Lookout, near Halls Gap, in the Grampians. I think the story behind this image is worth telling, so bear with me… It was incredibly cold for a Queenslander – about 3 degrees. The wind is blowing, and thanks to a little local knowledge, I’m driving up to Boroka Lookout, camera in tow, to check it out. Travelling on a steep single lane road, visibility down to damn near nothing. But as I was driving along, the sun broke through – bright yellow, big and bright. I bravely (creative license, who…me?) stopped (couldn’t pull over), and took a few photos. I’m just glad of two things – firstly, that the image worked out well, and secondly, that another driver didn’t run down the silly photographer jogging round taking photos on a fog filled morning…

  • BEST VIEWED LARGER A different view / North Narrabeen lies on the northern shores of Narrabeen lagoon, bounded by Warriewood to the north, Elanora Heights to the west and extends east to the ocean at Turrimetta Beach. Narrabeen is opposite on the southern shore of the lagoon. The first land grants were made to John Lees, 40 acres, Philip Schaffer, 50 acres, and James Wheeler, 80 acres, along the south bank of Mullet Creek. Alex Macdonald was granted 80 acres at the beach in 1815 and west of this land JT Collins had 93.5 acres by 1857. During the nineteenth century travellers had to ford the lake until 1880 when the first bridge opened. A second bridge at the mouth of the lagoon in Ocean Street was built in 1925 This shot was taken at sunset, i was driving across and caught the reflections out of the corner of my eye, needless to say I had my camera with me. The reflections were fantastic especially the clouds and the single span of the bridge looking like a double span. Narrabeen Lakes are a tidal fed this shot is the second bridge closest the the lakes entrance. Located around 30 kilometres from the Sydney CBD, a must if visting Sydney is to travel the Northern Beaches of Sydney, great at any time of day but glorious when there is a wonderful sunrise or sunset ….. MAGIC

  • Sunset on the Columbia River ~ Richland, Washington USA Featured in Mornings & Evenings—Sunbeams & Storms” 10/29/2009 About 20,000 years ago, during the Great Ice Age, Kennewick and Eastern Washington was the site of the greatest flood known to geology. It was called the Spokane Flood. Glacial Lake Missoula in Montana was full from the melting of glaciers. It contained 500 cubic miles of water, about half the volume of Lake Michigan. A giant glacial ice cork held all the water back near present Pend Orielle Lake at the Idaho border. The glacial ice cork worked fine until water started flowing over the top. Once water started flowing, the ice cork was probably destroyed in a matter of a few days. When the water was released, 9.5 cubic miles of water per hour flowed into Washington at 45 miles per hour. This is 10 times the combined flow of all the rivers in the world. This flow of water shaped much of Eastern Washington. Because Kennewick and Pasco are the lowest spots in Eastern Washington, the water rushed to the Tri-Cities. Here, there was only one outlet to the Pacific Ocean, Wallula Gap. Because Wallula Gap was too small to pass so much water, the water backed up to the top of the Horse Heaven Hills. With the bottle neck at Wallula Gap, the Tri-Cities was deeply flooded for 2 to 3 weeks, with a month before water levels returned to normal. / ~The Channeled Scablands of Eastern Washington

  • Featured in Happy Haven Photography… on Aug. 27, 2009 / Featured in Made By Nature – {2 a day} on Sept. 1, 2009 / Featured in Appalachian Artists on Sept. 7, 2009 Spring trees are both near and far in this view from Pinnacle Overlook. Straight ahead are the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky. Just below is the famous Cumberland Gap. / Cumberland Gap is located at the juncture of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia. Important in American history for being the passageway through the Appalachians used by pioneers moving west, it was called the Wilderness Road, and it is now part of the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. / The Cumberland Gap was discovered in 1750 by Dr. Thomas Walker, a Virginia physician and explorer. Long used by Native Americans, the path was widened by a team of loggers led by Daniel Boone, making it accessible to pioneers, who used it to journey into the western frontiers of Kentucky and Tennessee. Between 1775 and 1810 as many as 300,000 settlers may have used the Gap. [ref. Wikipedia] Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm, F/7.1, 1/125 sec, ISO 100, totally unedited.
