Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. ~ Confucius For the girl that has ever looked in the mirror and wished for longer hair, bigger lips, smaller ears, a thinner figure, whiter teeth, wider eyes, better make up, a prettier smile….....this is for you!! Have you ever noticed when you walk down Shop Street, or Grafton Street or any high street for that matter!? that girls all tend to dress the same? Yes there are differences of course in styles, colours, shapes etc, but everyone is trying to be someone else, trying to look like someone else, trying to fit into a mould. And do you know what the ironic thing is? You are best at being you, not being your sister, your best friend, the girl from the Rimmel advert or new TV soap. You were made YOU and guess what? You are amazing, you are unique, you are priceless, you are treasured, you were designed, not just thrown together, you are a masterpiece. You were not an accident. You are here at this time for a reason. You are best at being you. Do not try and be anyone else, do not try and fit into a mould that was never made for you. And sure nobody is perfect, we all have made wrong decisions and mistakes, but do not focus on them. Focus on the fact that YOU are amazing, not the person beside you, you’re husband, cat, dog or best friend. YOU are amazing. Learn to like yourself and life will be so much better. Embrace what you have. You may want a smaller figure, different family, prettier smile, and while you can change some things, others you just have to learn to accept and embrace. Be You, because you are Beautiful.

i have to say, i love this photo. I love the dirty wall in the background, the innocence, yet there seems to be a longing in the expression, almost a fear to expect… i like it!

One of the beauty spots of Ireland and a must for any visitor. I enjoyed painting the Abbey and spent many happy hours with a tiny brush on windows on turrets. The original is oils on canvas 20×26 inches Originally called Kylemore Castle, it was built between 1863 and 1868 as a private home for the family of Mitchell Henry, a wealthy politician from Manchester, England who was also MP for Galway County from 1871 to 1885. After the death of his wife Margaret in 1875, Mitchell did not spend much time there. He and his wife are both buried in the small mausoleum near the church in the grounds of the abbey. Notable features of the abbey are the neo-Gothic church (built between 1877 and 1881), a miniature replica of Norwich Cathedral, made from local green Connemara marble, and the Victorian walled garden. The abbey houses a secondary girls’ boarding school, Kylemore Abbey International Girls’ School. The house and gardens are open to the public. The nuns have decided to close the school in 2010, although they do not plan to sell the property and will continue to reside there. The name Kylemore originates from the Irish words Coill Mór – meaning Great Wood. Wildlife, landscapes and Irish life paintings by Avril Brand Clare Art Blog

Galway – Ireland
This beautiful castle located in the picturesque village of Kinvara, county Galway was constructed in 1520 by the Hynes clan on the site of a much older stronghold. This family are said to have been associated with the area since 662ad when the site is believed to have once been the royal palace of Guaire Aidhne the legendary king of Connacht . Sometime in the 17th century Dunguaire became the property of Oliver Martin and it remained the property of the Martin family until the early 20th century when it was purchased by surgeon and poet Oliver St. John Gogarty. Gogarty spent a lot of money restoring the castle and established it as the meeting place for several leading literary figures of the time such as W.B. Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, Augusta, Lady Gregory, and John Millington Synge. In 1954 Christobel Lady Ampthill acquired the castle and completed the restoration work begun by Gogarty. Today it is the property of Shannon development and is open to the public. It is commonly thought to be the most photographed castle in Ireland Please visit my website at Beautiful Photos of Ireland

Artwork from Ireland. (Original painting has been done in Acrylics on board) / A summer scene in my hometown of Galway which is on the west coast of Ireland. This was my first ever painting of my own subject matter and I did it in acrylics when I was about 18 years old. I’ve done it in a ‘pointillist’ style as I am very influenced by the French post-Impressionist painters and most particularly, Georges Seurat (1855-1891) who invented the post-impressionist style of ‘Pointillism’ and influenced Signac to paint in the same style. I completed this painting after completing a replica of one of Georges Seurat’s paintings – ‘The Seine at La Grande Jatte’. It was for a college assignment. We were to firstly pick a painting from a great Master, replicate it then do a painting of a similar subject matter using the same style. Pointillism is use of complementary coloured dots placed adjacent to each other or slightly overlapping to create extra colours while viewed from a distance. In a sense it is like optical colour mixing and a study of light. The effect that is created is what Seurat referred to as ‘emotion. This particular scene (my interpretation of Seurat’s ‘Pointillist’ style) is of ‘The University College Boat Club’ in Galway. Galway is a small city in the west of Ireland and is my hometown, so where better to start for an interesting subject matter. In the background, you’ll see some red pre-fabricated buildings and because this was painted many years ago, these pre-fabs no longer exist. In fact there is quite a large building there now. I love lots of colour and I find that when painting in the pointillist style it is possible to put almost every colour in the rainbow into a blur of dots and that this intensity of multi-colour dots helps the whole scene come to life. / Hope you like it. :) Featured in: The Patchwork 9th March 2009. / Featured in: From Masterpiece 10th March 2009. / Featured in: First Things 24th March 2009. / Featured in: ! * Irish Eyes * ! 7th June 2009. / Featured in: Landscape Painting – 12th August 2009. Oil Painting…I painted this quite a few years ago (maybe 1995-1996). It is based on a detail from a famous painting but unfortunately I cannot remember what the name of the painting was or who the original artist was. My version of this painting was painted on 16”x12” canvas board. I’ve decided to name it ‘Ode to an Urn’ as it reminds me of my favourite poem. Ode on a Grecian Urn by John Keats / I also love one of his other ‘Odes’ Ode to a Nightingale ...if I could only find myself a nightingale. LOL!
