Oil on canvas 100 X 100 cm. Completed 1999. For more information or to purchase prints please visit: / www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one” – Albert Einstein It is so amazing how some paintings come into being and the effect they have on the unsuspecting viewer. In 1997 I was painting with a group of like-minded artists for an upcoming exhibition. One of the artists was a beautiful soul by the name of Greg Grace. Greg was a good friend of mine whose work I greatly admired. One day Greg was showing me some of his latest drawings and when I saw a sketch of the Gateway, I was blown away. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, affecting me very deeply. I wanted to take it home to look at, every day. So I came up with a great solution, I would paint it! I approached Greg with the idea and much to my surprise he agreed. Greg liked the way I painted and felt that my style of painting would very much suit and enhance the powerful energy emanating from the mandala. He gave me the original drawing from which I worked. I absolutely loved painting the mandala. Painting the mandala in the dot style is the most effective and energetically powerful way of transmitting the essence of Gateway. The energy was so powerful at times that I could not work on the painting for more that a couple of hours a day. The original drawing was only of the mandala; I added the cosmic background because that’s where the gateway existed. When I look at the mandala in a meditative way I go through it to other dimensions. Intuitively, I sense that the Gateway exists within the middle star of the belt of Orion, and is the primary star-gate to multi- dimensional levels and universes. Every one of my friends who came to look at Gateway had a unique experience.

Since our dawn, man has always looked to the stars to make sense of the chaos that we create. And to me, it only seems fitting that our future should lie beyond our own planet, if we don’t mess it all up first. The main tone underlying this work is that we should look at our history in order to understand our future – and I’ve used the Mayans as a reference to the good and bad things that we have achieved. I’d like to think that this being dominating the artwork could very well be us, in our own creation of what we believe as interstellar beings. Kind of like life imitating art. The dome of his head is actually Mars, a planet many have speculated that could be an older version of our own Earth and a glimpse into our future. Behind the his head, and also tattooed on his brow, is part of the very advanced Mayan long-count calendar, which runs out on the 22nd December 2012 – a date that many historians are looking forward to, especially given today’s fragile climate. Some speculate that it could mark an approximate date to the end of life as we know it. Which ties in with other totally unrelated theories about our oil crisis, global warming, and so on. / In his eyes, he sees a horizon of fire which symbolizes the earth cleansing itself, although we’d see it as mass destruction. This is synonomous with our understanding of the Mayan civilization and how it overpopulated and crumbled under the high demand of such an over-indulgent society. The moon shots are from the recent lunar eclipse. I included this because the moon plays such an important part in our life, and the stabalisation of the planet – it moves away from the Earth at just under 4cm each year. Finally, I’ve used the Mayan Chichen Itza temple at the bottom of the piece as a stairway to the heavens, common with Mayan, Egyptian, and other beliefs.

VIEW LARGE PLEASE Micon can see through time and space and find anyone he loves. Here he longs for the guardians of the gate. These two are his playful mother Ullan and her lover Sami.. They are suspended in time in a village called Wassnt. Back home there are those that must defend the planet by always being awake to danger.. Ullan voulenteered to be suspended in time and then her lover did the same.. They are always awake and use their powers of ‘feeling out’ to warn the Armies of VELORUM of any impending danger. Being suspended in time gives them the ability to always be awake. She misses her Micon and knows when he is looking in.. when he is looking in she always tries to be happy.. for she misses her boy very much.

Galaxies, globular clusters, stars and stardust captured doing their juggling act. Or something. Another one that’s never been added to Fractal Frenzy! Funny, really, since nodakami so kindly used it as the very first FF group icon ;-)

The workings of a frustrated creative mind gone temporarily insane… Too many tangents, too many ideas. Too many thoughts trying to cram their way into an already overcrowded space. A peek into my inner tumultuous subconcious. The working title for this was A Crisis of Faith – In Myself Of course I’m out of my mind…. It’s dark and scary in there! I think a prolonged hibernation is in order.

Ok, so I am designing something for a competition, so my overall image will not be about space, but there will be some space aspects within it. / / As I work through my image, I will be sharing some of the steps I use to create it. / / This step, is how to create a space galaxy in Photoshop without any photography. / / These tutorials will work as stand alones, but you are welcome if you wish to follow the whole series and create along side me. / / This was all done in Photoshop CS2, but as no specialist tools are used, most versions of Photoshop will suffice. / / Have fun – and here we go. / / 1. Open Photoshop and create a new black image 1400 wide x 1000 high / 2. Duplicate this layer [up the top, click on the word layer, then on duplicate, click ok on the box that appears] so that you have 2 identical layers in the layer palette [bottom right hand corner] Layers Palette / / / 3. On your keyboard, hold ctrl and press D once to set the foreground/background colours to Black and White / 4. Working on the top layer in the layer palette [make sure its highlighted, click on it if it isn’t] – click on the word filter [up the top], then on Pixelate, then on Pointilize – a window will appear. Set the cell size to 7 and click on OK to apply the filter. you now should have something similar to the image below / / Image after Pointilize filter has been applied / / / 5. Working on the same layer, select the eliptical marquee selection tool on the left hand toolbar. Set the Feather [up the top] to 40 pixels, and draw a selection like the one below by clicking and dragging the mouse on the image / / Eliptical marquee selection / / / / 6. Click the word Select [up the top], then click inverse – to inverse the selection, and press delete on the keyboard. This will remove all the dots and texture outside the eliptical selection. 7. Click on the word Image [up the top] then on adjustments, then on Levels – a box will appear. Change the settings to match that of the image below and click ok. / / / / 8. Click on the word Filter [up the top] and click on Distort, then on Twirl. Change the settings to that of the image below and click on OK. / / / / Your image should now look similar to the one below. / / / / 9. Now click on the word Edit [up the top] then click on Transform, then on Distort. This will place lines and points around your image. Drag the bottom right corner point upward and to the right until you get something similar to the image below. Once you are happy with it, hit enter on your keyboard to apply the effect. / / / / 10. Use the move tool over on the toolbar on the left to move this layer into the centre like shown below. / / / / As you will see, you now have your galaxy and all we need to do now, is add some life to it. / / 11. Change the foreground colour to a very light creamy yellow and click on the paintbrush tool in the toolbar over on the left. Set the brush size to about 250 with ZERO Hardness and the brush opacity [up the top] to about 75. Click the brush on the centre of the galaxy once. Now reduce the opacity to 25, click the mouse slightly to the left of your last click position, and then do the same to the right – this will give a disc shape light in the centre of the galaxy. / / 12. Now click on the Dodge tool over on the left toolbar, Set the brush size to 75, the Range to Highlights and the Exposure to 60. Now drag the mouse from the centre of the galaxy in outward spirals to create the galaxy trails. Finish off by adding a little dodge to the centre of the galaxy to brighten it right up. / / 13. You now have a fihished galaxy which you can rotate to suit. Once you have the position you want and are happy with all the brightness, contrast etc, to finish click on the word Layer [up the top] then on flatten image, and then save your file. / / It should look similar to this after you have rotated it etc. / / / / You can have a different colour galazy by changing the foreground and background colours at stage 3 of this tutorial, and can have different shapes by changing the amount of dodge and rotation at the end. / / The one below was created using light blue and purple instead of black and white at stage 3, and a lot of dodge applied at the end. / / Hope you enjoy, and I would love to hear how you get on. / / Jul

March 08 2007 / Text By Meera Sethi When William Blake writes in “Auguries of Innocence” that it is possible “to see a world in a grain of sand/and a heaven in a wildflower,/Hold infinity in the palm of your hand/And eternity in an hour,” he is reminding us that great complexity may be found in the simplest ideas—and that even the most minute objects have within them space enough to hold the quality of vastness. Look deeply, and in a single small motif you may recognize the deep and intricate patterns of the entire universe: the arrangement of leaves on an elm tree reflects an eternally recurring mathematical sequence, the tempo of a snowy tree cricket’s chirp is intimately and precisely linked to the very temperature of the air through which it flies. It is not so strange, then—knowing that when we look up we see the stories of our lives written in the stars—that when we look down again we should also see the shape of the earth itself burned into the bottom of the wok in which we have just made dinner. http://www.utata.org/frontpage/19441.php
