  • Galaxies, globular clusters, stars and stardust captured doing their juggling act. Or something. Another one that’s never been added to Fractal Frenzy! Funny, really, since nodakami so kindly used it as the very first FF group icon ;-)

  • Since our dawn, man has always looked to the stars to make sense of the chaos that we create. And to me, it only seems fitting that our future should lie beyond our own planet, if we don’t mess it all up first. The main tone underlying this work is that we should look at our history in order to understand our future – and I’ve used the Mayans as a reference to the good and bad things that we have achieved. I’d like to think that this being dominating the artwork could very well be us, in our own creation of what we believe as interstellar beings. Kind of like life imitating art. The dome of his head is actually Mars, a planet many have speculated that could be an older version of our own Earth and a glimpse into our future. Behind the his head, and also tattooed on his brow, is part of the very advanced Mayan long-count calendar, which runs out on the 22nd December 2012 – a date that many historians are looking forward to, especially given today’s fragile climate. Some speculate that it could mark an approximate date to the end of life as we know it. Which ties in with other totally unrelated theories about our oil crisis, global warming, and so on. / In his eyes, he sees a horizon of fire which symbolizes the earth cleansing itself, although we’d see it as mass destruction. This is synonomous with our understanding of the Mayan civilization and how it overpopulated and crumbled under the high demand of such an over-indulgent society. The moon shots are from the recent lunar eclipse. I included this because the moon plays such an important part in our life, and the stabalisation of the planet – it moves away from the Earth at just under 4cm each year. Finally, I’ve used the Mayan Chichen Itza temple at the bottom of the piece as a stairway to the heavens, common with Mayan, Egyptian, and other beliefs.

  • Oil on canvas 40” X 40”. Completed 1999. www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one” / – Albert Einstein It is so amazing how some paintings come into being and the effect they have on the unsuspecting viewer. In 1997 I was painting with a group of like-minded artists for an upcoming exhibition. One of the artists was a beautiful soul by the name of Greg Grace. Greg was a good friend of mine whose work I greatly admired. One day Greg was showing me some of his latest drawings and when I saw a sketch of the Gateway, I was blown away. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, affecting me very deeply. I wanted to take it home to look at, every day. So I came up with a great solution, I would paint it! I approached Greg with the idea and much to my surprise he agreed. Greg liked the way I painted and felt that my style of painting would very much suit and enhance the powerful energy emanating from the mandala. He gave me the original drawing from which I worked. I absolutely loved painting the mandala. Painting the mandala in the dot style is the most effective and energetically powerful way of transmitting the essence of Gateway. The energy was so powerful at times that I could not work on the painting for more that a couple of hours a day. The original drawing was only of the mandala; I added the cosmic background because that’s where the gateway existed. When I look at the mandala in a meditative way I go through it to other dimensions. Intuitively, I sense that the Gateway exists within the middle star of the belt of Orion, and is the primary star-gate to multi- dimensional levels and universes. Every one of my friends who came to look at Gateway had a unique experience.

  • FROM WIKIPEDIA / The Andromeda Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 2.5 million light-years away4 in the constellation Andromeda. It is the nearest spiral galaxy to our own, the Milky Way. As it is visible as a faint smudge on a moonless night, it is one of the farthest objects visible to the naked eye, and can be seen even from urban areas with binoculars. It is named after the princess Andromeda in Greek mythology.

  • Welcome to NGC5128 or Centaurus A or The Hamburger. / This is a close neighbouring galaxy to the Milky Way. It lies about 12,000,000 Ly distant and is an active galaxy. In the centre of the Galaxy lies a Million Solar Mass Black Hole. The gravity of this enormous black hole attracts the stars and gas in the middle of the galaxy. The gas and stars falling in creates a disc of material which gets superheated due to the compression of the gravity of the black hole. The super hot material radiates its energy in radio and X-rays. The point directly above and below the disc of infalling matter allows for most of the energy to escape in jets. These jets will effect the galaxy itself and as you can see the galaxy appears to be elongated slightly off the vertical. The bark lane across the middle of the galaxy is not the infalling dust and gas. Rather it is the remains of another galaxy that Centaurus A has canablised in the past. The glow of the stars is being blocked from view. This Galaxy is very large by any standard being several times the size of the Milky Way. / This image is a composite of 3 five minutes images taken with a Nikon D300. The camera was attached to a 6” refractor on a mount to compensate for the earths rotation.
