I want to share this great book with you redbbublers and I hope you will find the time to read this amazing book. / It is written by Neil Gaiman. His website American gods is the story of a man travelling through America and meeting the gods of the old world. “Shadow gets out of prison early when his wife is killed in a car crash. At a loss, he takes up with a mysterious character called Wednesday, who is much more than he appears. In fact, Wednesday is an old god, once known as Odin the All-father, who is roaming America rounding up his forgotten fellows in preparation for an epic battle against the upstart deities of the Internet, credit cards, television, and all that is wired. Shadow agrees to help Wednesday, and they whirl through a psycho-spiritual storm that becomes all too real in its manifestations. For instance, Shadow’s dead wife Laura keeps showing up, and not just as a ghost—the difficulty of their continuing relationship is by turns grim and darkly funny, just like the rest of the book. ” Therese Littleton, from Amazon Editorial Reviews Neil Gaiman also wrote Stardust which is now to be seen as a / “motion picture”: http://www.stardustmovie.com Enjoy and hopefully you would like to read more books from Neil Gaiman.

I’ve been given ‘Stardust’ as a gift, and watched it tonight for the first time since seeing it in the cinema. It’s a movie adaption of one of my favourite books, and it really is a lovely and sweet fairytale. Although the book is more so ;) I love the work of Neil Gaiman. What a delightful mind. While I still like the book more, and cringed at times with some of the strange turns added into the movie, it’s still great. I wasn’t sure what I thought the first time I saw it at the cinema, but it stuck with me for days, so I assumed that meant I loved it, and was just coping with how it was changed from the book. Claire Danes is such a sweety, and gorgeous when she’s glowing. So I love a bit of romantic fantasy :)

  • 9×12” Arches paper, 140 lb. cold pressed. watercolors and ink. Revolutionaries Series. Gaiman is an amazing storyteller and without him, many people wouldn’t be into comics. He generated a lot of interest with his Sandman series. I did have the honor of meeting him at one of his comic signings, and he was gracious and very nice.

  • I have done portraits of people I consider to be or have been Revolutionaries, from writers to musicians, creative and independent thinkers all of them!

  • Probably the first photo I played digitally with. Slightly inspired by Robert A. Heinlan’s novel, “Job – a comedy of errors”, Neil Gaiman’s Netherworld and by Michael Moorcock’s idea of a Multiverse. Here, there are just kids playing in a park. The image is deliberately dark to convey the idea of some sort of universe ‘overlay’. Anyway, the processing is a bit naive, but I kind of got what I wanted.

  • On Zazzle / On DeviantART Won a Today’s Best Award on Zazzle (second page, bottom row) Closeup of a picture I’m workng on – I liked this bit on its own, and I wanted to show a closeup on the details anyway. Very Sandman and Neil Gaiman inspired (specifically, the Endless – Mostly Death, but also Dream, Destiny and Desire), but not actually OF them. Some personal stuff in there – some emotional imagery, some pretty details that mean nothing. / The pain of caring and protecting something beautiful that feeds on you and hurts you. The paleness of being only a shadow compared to another’s light and glory. The power of darkness and being unknown, and the restraint possessed and never seen. And I just had a completely different idea for the background… Anyway, the full picture’s up to fours hours at the moment (and hasn’t been touched for awhile…), this bit… was maybe two hours. • Are you a Gaiman nerd? Do you wear dark glasses and train your hair to creatively misbehave? Here is the t-shirt for you! It’s a bit of a Humorous one (yes, with a capital H). Do forgive me if it irks you. Printed in black on this lovely black t-shirt is “i think i am neil gaiman” – I notice that the black on black is actually visible in this image, but if you want a clearer one, you can look here: http://tinyurl.com/gaimantee All but invisible, save for when it catches the light, or is pointed out by the wearer to friends, with a wise & wily expression. AhhHHhhhhh. YesssSSSSs… Knowing looks and loud laughter from those who get the joke is, of course, mandatory. (Should one see Neil Gaiman himself wearing it, the laughter is possibly not such a good idea, as it may be misconstrued as mockery.)

  • On DeviantART / The closeup / Shadowhaunt on DeviantART / Shadowhaunt on Zazzle ArtRage 2.5 and graphics tablet / 5 and a half hours Reference on the red rose: Personal stock – Red Rose 2 This is… was? a highly personal work; hurting and flying at the same time, when you break a treasured glass egg and find a rainbow feather; lose a love and gain a friend; grow wings and agoraphobia all at once; dance on the wire and fall on thorns… but survive… And you’re holding the glass shards in your hand, lest you destroy the feather.

Amanda Palmer is a musician (if you haven’t heard of her), and her latest project is called ‘Who Killed…’ In a collaboration with the writer, Neil Gaiman, and photographer, Kyle Cassidy, the three of them have released a companion book of death scenes of Amanda with stories by Neil. More info here Since they had so much fun, they opened it up for everyone, and have put up some photos and asked people to write their own stories. Or, take your own photograph. Then send them in and the best stories and images will be posted every week, and the best of the month will get prizes. Interested? Go and have a look here at the ‘We Killed Amanda Palmer’ project.

I saw Coraline today. It’s brilliant. / If you saw Mirrormask, there are similarities in the two stories. Mirrormask, however is rather darker and creepier. / Here is the most twisted scene, in which the heroine falls captive to the evil mother. / It might put you off The Carpenters for life.
