© 2009 RC deWinter – All Rights Reserved Dress houses were disreputable, seedy, Victorian-era brothels run by greedy and unscrupulous pimps and madams, who rented out rooms and clothing to prostitutes in exchange for their services and a major portion of the earnings. These houses were just a step above walking the streets for the unfortunate women who lived and worked there, for they almost always ended up owing the owner of the house more money than they could make. This resulted in their virtual slavery from which they could rarely escape. This image depicts a corner of an assignation parlor where a women and a customer could sit and carouse before proceeding to her rented room.

Update 22.09.09 / I’ve come up with another collection; titled Contemporary Christmas. The images are accompanied with some ideas for decorating and celebrating Christmas. I hope you enoy it as much as I will! Some fabrics I made into cushion covers for the Christmas season. I love the colour patterns of the strips and checks; Christmassy without screaming “Jingle Bells” or “Deck the Halls”. The different weaves and threads are also of interest; they create a range of tactile texture. Decorating In Detail – For a neutral coloured sofa, fabrics in simple patterns will brighten up your living room and bring in the Holidays feeling. You can mix and match fabrics as long as they have a theme in the patterns and colours-it’s festive without being overpowering. / For printed or brightly coloured sofas, choose fabrics in neutral colours to avoid looking cluttered and busy. Choose fabrics that have texture and even patterns, if you’re brave enough, as long as it’s all one colour.
