mikoto’s Daruma Doll someone asked me at my stall at Paddington Markets about the meaning behind the skull logo. I talked to them about how I wanted to achieve a balance between cuteness and evil/cheeckyness in all of the mikoto designs. Having the skull and cross bones with love heart eyes and a cute smile symbolized that. I also talked about how having one eye coloured related to the Japanese Daruma Doll. The Daruma is a Japanese doll that is sold near Buddhist temples all throughout Japan. It symbolises optimism, persistence, and strong determination because of its ability to be tilted to one side and always return to the upright position. The doll’s eyes only contain the color white. Using black ink, you fill in a single eye while thinking of a wish. If the wish comes true, the second eye is then filled in. When I designed the logo I made one eye black with the Daruma Doll and a wish in mind. The mikoto logo is representative of a personal Daruma. It holds a wish that I hope one day Ill achieve, and represents the qualities I need to possess to make it happen. hopefully, my goals will one day come true, and Ill be able to colour in both eyes. thanks for taking the time to meet mikoto’s Daruma Doll scotty
French BullDog French Bulldogs are one of my favourite breads of dog, simply because of funny look they have on their face. When I was in Switzerland a few years ago I remember sitting having dinner at an up-market restaurant. I could heard this snotty labored breathing nearby. I turned around to see what it was and there were these two french bulldogs sitting upright at the next dinner table staring over at me and my food. I will never forget their comical and stark expressions.
I have been thinking about how to merge a few of my designs together and I like how this has worked out. I based on the idea of one of those Pandora bracelets you have that you can continually add to. IN this case I have the daruma doll, mocha, skull, forkers, a moon and french bulldog. Plus a few stars. enjoy!

Kunoichi – Ninja Girl Kunoichi(γγδΈ) is the female term for ninja. It actually means Dragon Lady and was the name given to women of the Black Dragon Fighting Society. Story has it that There was once a daughter of a Japanese lord who had been assassinated. She was subsequently married off to a new husband. One night she invited all the friends and relatives of her new spouse to a feast and poisoned them. This left her with a reputation for ruthless efficiency.

this piece was inspired by an email asking for more or the fork off duo and the shirt by no frills art obsolete death by technology I did originally intend to have the little guy getting his revenge for being forked by devil girl but something in me left it this way. The is a lot of emotion in this piece as I’m sure many of you have felt like you have had you heart broken by a personified devil – I know I have (sigh and a tear) close up: / PS – Don’t worry, I will get round to making the revenge version called “fork you too” very soon :) Scotty The original T:
Mount mikoto This is part of a bigger design that I am slowly putting together. It reminds me of Uluru’s The Olgas that are in Kata Tjuta National Park, Northern Territory, Aus. However in this instance they are snow capped and of course smiling.

Over the summer holidays I read a few books including Stephen King’s great bio/howto: On Writing. In the first few pages he discusses the importance of a writer’s editor. And in brilliant little play on words he states: to write is human, to edit, devine This term is of course derived from the almost proverbial quote by poet Alexander Pope to err is human, to forgive divine. I am not a writer, I’m a designer, and after reading King’s Quote i sat there for a while and tried to come up with my own mantra. To sketch is human, to design is divine is what i got. i love it, it rhymes, has alliteration, and is to the point! I also over summer read a book about Murakami and saw so many beautiful orchids… All those summer experiences have come together for my first piece of 2009. I also googled my new mantra and was so happy to see that at least on the web no one else had written it yet, proving there is still some space for new ideas. especially in wonderful place like redbubble!
