    by Rosalie Dale IPA

    US$4.32–US$98.80

At this time of the year the Amanita muscaria (also known as fly agaric) grow in profusion in the pine needles of this forest in the Blue Mountains (NSW, Australia). I believe they have magic qualities if eaten (I can imagine!!) ... there must be some very happy little creatures around as a lot of the mushrooms have holes in them! This time last year, I shot Persistence in the same area. Featured in Retired and Happy Group in May 2009 Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM

    A surreal manipulation

  • My very first attempt at ZBrush, with “flames” manipulated in Photoshop. Also my very first attempt at getting a print done in large format canvas, and discovering screen colours DON’T translate into print as well. Hmm. The proceeds of all sales go to World Vision, an organisation dedicated to looking after children in Third World countries. .... EXCEPT, while it still runs through Phoenix Appeal, these proceeds will go to the RED CROSS VICTORIAN BUSHFIRE APPEAL. Check out my web site for twisted IRONy metal sculpture.

  • THE SUBJECT: / A very rare find. Two fine specimens of the fruiting body of the Entoloma hochstetteri fungus in the natural light of a slightly overcast autumn day. THE LOCATION: / Along a track in the Kattang Nature Reserve, Dunbogan, NSW, Australia. THE MAKING of ‘The Blues Brothers #1 (Entoloma hochstetteri)’: / Out on a fungi hunt with a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mate, we were only 150 metres from the car park when we saw the beautiful blue of these fungi poking up from the leaf litter. / As I had never seen any blues in my almost four years of fungi hunting, I was as excited as a kid at Christmas with this find. / This photograph is brought to you after much pain and discomfort as I was bitten by a bull ant, my mate was bitten by a leech and we were both bitten by mosquitoes. The things we do…..! / Fuji S9600: RAW, Super macro, Manual settings of f/3.6 @ 1/60sec, Manual focus, ISO80, Timer, Camera on ground. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. Visit the Fungi & Lichen collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more fungal delights. NOTE: / I lightened the image slightly and gave the saturation a little tweak for printing on Ilford Galerie Smooth Gloss Media and it did a marvellous job on the blues. UPDATE: 23-04-09 / The Blues Brothers has been featured in the Fungilicious Group. UPDATE: 1-7-09 / The Brothers have WON the Fungilicious Group’s *Colour – Blue Challenge. Enjoy! • The Rainforests of the Tarkine, some 177,000 hectares, include the largest unbroken stand of rainforest in Australia. A relic from the ancient continent, Gondwanaland, the Tarkine rainforest is one of the most significant temperate rainforests on earth. It is home to 56 threatened and endangered species, such as the Giant Freshwater Crayfish – the world’s largest freshwater invertebrate and the Tasmanian Wedge Tailed Eagle – the largest Eagle in Australia. These rainforests are recognised as being one of the most significant tracts of temperate rainforest on earth, and are under imminent threat. While logging of pure stands of rainforest is occurring in and around the periphery of the Tarkine, the logging industry is pushing the Tasmanian Government to allow logging through the heart of the Tarkine Rainforests. This would divide the rainforest and seriously fragment the Tarkine’s wilderness qualities. Information sourced from John Merory I recently had the pleasure of working with Maree Jenkins who is soon to be opening her Tarkine Wilderness Lodge in the heart of the Tarkine Rainforest. Maree shared with me her love and intense passion for this very important little corner of the world. By establishing the Lodge as a viable tourism venture Maree hopes to stave off the chainsaws and brutal machinery of the Government which threaten to steal the life breath of the forest, stripping it of its natural beauty. Save our forests. They desperately need our voice for they have no voice of their own.

  • THE SUBJECT: / A very small developing fruiting body of the Cyptotrama aspratum (Gold Tuft) fungus found on a rotting dead branch and caught in the gorgeous natural light of a slightly overcast autumn afternoon sky. / About 1.5cm high. THE LOCATION: / Along a track in the Kattang Nature Reserve, Dunbogan, NSW, Australia. THE MAKING of ‘Spike Jones #3 (Cryptotrama asprata)’: / Out on a fungi hunt with a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mate, we were only 150 metres from the car park when we saw the beautiful glow of this fungus poking up from the leaf litter. / While most of the fungi we found were the blues we found three of these at different stages of development. / This photograph is brought to you after much pain and discomfort as I was bitten by a bull ant, my mate was bitten by a leech and we were both bitten by mosquitoes. • I was out for a walk yesterday, when I spied these HUGE mushrooms!!! I thought at first (from a distance) that it was trash in someones yard. Upon close inspection… WOW!!! What a fun time I had photographing these!!! Due to the fact that it has been raining in the evenings, they were able to grow…. and as I lay in the grass to get some shots off, my daughter was quick to point out that there were mosquito’s EVERYWHERE!!!!!! AAAAAAAAA I’m covered in bites, and itching like crazy….. but hey, anything for the shot right???? Thank you for taking the time to view my work!!! / Have a most excellent day!!!! / / / Copyright 2008 Julie – Julie Alexander. All Rights Reserved. Unauthorized use prohibited. • Small blue fungus amongst the unmistakable shape of Myrtle leaves in a typical Tasmanian rainforest. / The first time you see these fungus, you assume they cannot be real. Their amazing colour does make them unique and attractive. / A particularly impressive example, I decided rather than interfere, to leave the small speck of dirt / debris on the front one, keeping it real as I like to do. / It could easily be cloned out if that’s your preference. Dimensions: 3872×2592 pixels. How much detail is there in my images? / This image has an example If you like this, you’ll probably like / my other images.
