My mother has this lovely spirit about her which I have always admired. As children we grew up with my grandfather’s video camera pointed at us and my mother’s point and shoot. At this Christmas just passed, I was taking family photos and became very aware that all the grandchildren were happy to have their photo taken and even went out of their way to pose and give me their attention for a moment. You could see them ‘sense’ when a candid was coming and stop chewing their food. I found it entertaining. But I’m on a tangent! I spent a weekend in McCrae taking photos, eating nice things and going for drives and bike rides. On the last day we headed up one of the local piers and there were quite a few tourists taking advantage of the long weekend. Watching others having their holiday portraits taken I was reminded of how my mother would aim her camera at us and in an attempt to make us smile, yell out in her lovely sing song way “Say Holidays” Thanks to my collab partner James / Check out joobrien.com.au

This weekend I did something very very silly…. / I took my new camera on a jet ski in a plastic container (i.e not waterproof housing) and got some snaps of Port Phillip Bay. We only nearly fell of the jet ski, hmmm…. repeatedly. I hope it was worth it! Thanks to my Jetski driver and all round relaxing company James / Check out joobrien.com.au

/ / / Dot and Spot is from the ‘Beach’ and ‘Friends’ Series of cards and prints by Karin Taylor. The original painting sold some time ago at a local art prize called the Southern Cross Art & Craft Exhibition in Ballina. It is one of my favourite pieces. Dot and Spot was created on canvas textured paper, using mixed media.

My mate AffectMachine made a card/print in response to Seashore Sally entitled – She Being – Response to Sea Shore Sally Seashore Sally by Karin Taylor is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper (ink pastel acrylic charcoal) I drew/painted this a long time ago, it was the first time i applied a real face to a painting, ie real eyes instead of dots etc. and I wasn’t very happy or confident about doing it at the time, as I had done only dots for eyes, and the lady who purchased it asked me if i could apply a face for her…after i did it, she said it reminded her very much of her sister in law, luckily…she liked her sister in law! lol

Acrylic On Canvas Ophelia,Phoebe and Mel having fun on the elephant’s back….and elephant was pleased to have their company as well! :D This was painted in May’08 and I remembered I had a yearning to want to visit Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand :D..so that was why I painted these 3 friends having an outing with the elephant….because there are many elephant reserves there in Chiang Mai, where they protect these precious animals from harm. She enjoys putting on all kinds of quirky caps and hats, she is never seen without them!
