A infrared film image of an old petrol pump. It is now dilapidated, but my recollection as a child when going with my father to put petrol in his car, is of a gleaming and impressive device which left me in awe. Much more character than modern electronic petrol pumps. Scanned at 4000dpi on a Nikon Coolscan V ED film scanner.

While stopping at road works in Maenclochog, near the Presseli Mountains in South Wales, I saw these old pumps at thr roadside. While clearly out of use, the way they stand guard at the roadside, with buckets at the ready to collect the drips, suggest they might one day again come back to use. A romantic view, but nice anyway. A colour digital original converted to black and white.

the ubiquitous gas pump…route 66 owes its identity to the car, but without the gas pump, there would be no way for the cars to get anywhere…of course, they were a seemingly simple pump device for dispensing gas, but it also had to calculate the amount of gas that was pumped and it had to do it in as safe a manner as possible…each brand created a unique design for the pumps that stood guard out front…and this was a time when an attendant pumped the gas, checked your oil and washed your windshield, service highly touted along the old route…and then there was the clean restroom…

gilmore gas was once the largest distributor of gasoline in the western united states, now part of a larger oil company…it started at the corner of fairfax and third in los angeles, just a few blocks off route 66…and when I say started, they were actually drilling for oil at that location…today the location houses the bustling and famous farmers market, a great place to eat and watch the world go by…be sure to check out a very cool restored gilmore gas station…

Wandering around Abbotsford Convent with a friend, we stumbled across this. We were already playing with flash gear so I placed one flash on the ground behind it (fitted with a red-gel) and another flash at front right zoomed to 85mm to throw a narrow beam on the dials.

I just got so mad when I went to put gas today that I took my frustrations out on Drawing Day and felt all better.
