The rugged 16,000ha Carnarvon Gorge section of Carnarvon National Park is the most popular destination in Queensland’s central highlands. Remnant rainforest flourishes in the sheltered side-gorges while endemic cabbage tree palms Livistona nitida, ancient cycads, ferns, flowering shrubs and gum trees line the meandering main gorge. Grassy open forest grows on the cliff tops. The park’s creeks attract a wide variety of animals including more than 173 species of birds. Aboriginal rock art on sandstone overhangs is a fragile reminder of Aboriginal people’s long and continuing connection with the gorge. Some of the finest Aboriginal rock art in Australia, including ochre stencils, rock engravings and freehand paintings, can be seen at Baloon Cave, the Art Gallery and Cathedral Cave. I took this shot a long time ago when I was in Illinois helping my dad with some family issuses. At the time I took it I was in a lot of pain, and I guess I put it away with the pain. Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Sunset out West Bathurst, Country New South Wales, Australia. AS IS – Straight from the Camera From where I sit on my back verandah, somtimes I’m luckily enough to capture a few of the beautiful sunsets that we have out here in the west. In winter, the sun is in just the right position. Bathurst is Australia ’s oldest inland settlement and has a population of around 37,000. She sat waiting on her hill. / Just as the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky turned the most amazing colors. / Matilda had been coming here to this spot, her spot for so many years. This time here, alone, she cried. / Matilda knew that this sunset was her last one to be seen from here. Tomorrow, she would be gone. / The moving van had left with all that remained of her time spent here. I was really taken aback one day when out for a walk with my daughter; we spied the sky at the same time. Immediately I started snapping photo’s. (She did too, she’s got her own “kid-proof” digital camera). I just loved the richness of the colors, and the only way to get a decent shot (before the moment was gone) was to shoot through trees and power lines. It’s still wonderful though, and the memories that I shared with my little one will be treasured forever!! Very little post processing work was done on this image.
