  • Frisky
    by Glenna Walker

    US$4.16–US$95.00

Features Urban Wildlife – 1/28/09 / #12 Great Features – 1/27/09 / Country Bumpkin – 2/6/09 / American Southwest – 2/3/09 / Squirrels – 1/30/09 I was out and about yesterday, January 29, 2009 and saw this little squirrel scamper up a tree. I pulled off the road into a driveway, rolled down my passenger window as I was on the driver’s side, and just started shooting. I got some great shots of her, isn’t she just precious? She was eating something – she looks a little chubby, maybe some little one’s on the way? I love squirrels. I named this one Frisky because before I was even born, my dad and oldest sisters found a baby squirrel and named it Frisky. My dad has old reel tapes of him and my oldest sister holding Frisky. Photo taken in the city of Oak Leaf, TX in an urban environment! The Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger) is the largest species of tree squirrel native to North America. The Fox Squirrel’s natural range extends throughout the eastern United States, excluding New England, north into the southern prairie provinces of Canada, and west to the Dakotas, Colorado, and Texas. They have been introduced to both Northern and Southern California. While very versatile in their habitat choices, fox squirrels are most often found in forest patches of 400,000 square metres or less with an open understory, or in urban neighborhoods with trees. They thrive best among trees such as oak, hickory, walnut and pine that produce winter-storable foods like nuts. They are gregarious and apparently playful, often chasing each other up and down trees and across yards and clearings. They have a large vocabulary, consisting most notably an assortment of clucking and chucking sounds, not unlike some “game” birds, and they warn the listening world of approaching threats. In the spring and fall, groups of fox squirrels clucking and chucking together can make a small ruckus. They are impressive jumpers, easily spanning fifteen feet in horizontal leaps and free-falling twenty feet or more to a soft landing on a limb or trunk. Best viewed larger

Steve’s_Biography The koala is a small bear-like, tree-dwelling, herbivorous marsupial which averages about 9kg (20lb) in weight. Its fur is thick and usually ash grey with a tinge of brown in places. The koala gets its name from an ancient Aboriginal word meaning “no drink” because it receives over 90% of its hydration from the Eucalyptus leaves (also known as gum leaves) it eats, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves, ie during droughts etc. The koala is the only mammal, other than the Greater Glider and Ringtail Possum, which can survive on a diet of eucalyptus leaves.

  • Big love
    by Gili Orr

    US$4.99–US$35.62

The Giant Panda is an endangered species and highly threatened. According to the latest report (2007), China has 239 giant pandas in captivity (128 of them in Wolong and 67 in Chengdu), and another 27 pandas living outside the country. It also estimated that around 1,590 pandas are currently living in the wild. However, a 2006 study, via DNA analysis, estimated that there might be as many as 2,000 to 3,000 pandas in the wild. Though reports show that the numbers of wild pandas are on the rise, the World Conservation Union (IUCN) believes there is not enough certainty to remove pandas from the endangered animal list. • Eastern Water Dragon #3
    by Marilyn Harris

    US$4.09–US$93.48

Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Eastern Water Dragon (Physignathus lesueurii) Class: Reptilia Family: Agamidae World-wide, around 350 species are recognised currently in the family Agamidae. Of these, 72 species in 14 genera occur in Australia. Australian agamids are small to moderate-sized lizards. The Water Dragon is Australia’s largest agamid lizard. Water Dragons belong to the genus Physignathus. This genus has only two species world-wide. The eastern water dragon grows to around 80-90cm in length, much of which is tail. Their colour consists of shades of grey or brown with a series of black bands on the back and tail and a black stripe on the side of the head behind the eye. The underside is creamy-white, although males may have a vivid red on some or most of the belly and chest. There are enlarged scales forming a crest down the middle of the head, back and tail. The legs are relatively long and powerful and the strong tail is flattened on the sides to assist with swimming.

  • I took this photo last July 4th. There was a parade in my town (in Tennessee), and my little girl has to go to every parade there is! I used the Orton technique on this photo to give it that something extra! / The Orton Effect is named after Michael Orton who first used the technique is a sandwich of two images, one in focus the other out of focus. • The Fox and the Grapes
    by Stephanie Smith

    US$3.99–US$91.20

From Aesop’s Fables: A famished Fox crept into a vineyard where he spied a cluster of ripe, luscious grapes draped high upon the arbor. He took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch. Again and again he tried to reach the tasty prize, but with no greater success. At last he had to admit defeat and he walked away muttering to himself, “What does it matter, I’m sure those grapes are sour anyway!” Moral: It is easy to despise what you cannot have. Ink drawing with digital color, 2007. See more from this series at my porfolio website www.stephaniesmith.com

  • Wild! Koala
    by KazM

    US$3.99–US$91.20

This is a impressionistic painting of a Koala. It looks a bit wild hence the name. It was painted with MetallicBrush Pens (like preloaded paint brushes) on Windsor & Newton black drawing paper (140gsm). When I typed the title into the search engine the following came up so I thought it would be an appropriate commentary for my work. / / Adopt A Wild Koala. / If you are wondering what to buy as a gift for someone who “has everything” then this is an ideal solution to your problem. / Our Adopt A Wild Koala Program is the major source of fund raising for the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. / The cost of an adoption is AU$40 within Australia and AU$50 overseas per year. http://www.koalahospital.org.au/adopt/
