The Quarry Hill Collection was gathered over the summer of 2008. Walking around my area, observing and taking the odd cutting over fences etc. I found many surprises during this exercise, including these pears in the backyard of a derelict miner’s cottage.

From my collection: / Natural Impressions A composite image of two of my photographs: Alaska Midday Sun and the exquisite black sand beach of Hamoa, Maui Hawai’i “When He Himself reveals Himself, Brahma brings into manifestation That which can never be seen. As the seed is in the plant, as the shade is in the tree, as the void is in the sky, as infinite forms are in the void ~ So from beyond the Infinite, the Infinite comes; and from the Infinite the finite extends. The creature is in Brahma, and Brahma is in the creature: they are ever distinct, yet ever united. He Himself is the tree, the seed, and the germ. He Himself is the flower, the fruit, and the shade. He Himself is the sun, the light, and the lighted. He Himself is Brahma, creature, and Maya. He Himself is the manifold form, the infinite space; He is the breath, the word, and the meaning. He Himself is the limit and the limitless: and beyond both the limited and the limitless is He, the Pure Being. He is the Immanent Mind in Brahma and in the creature. The Supreme Soul is seen within the soul, The Point is seen within the Supreme Soul, And within the Point, the reflection is seen again. Kabir is blessed because he has this supreme vision!” Songs of Kabir ~ Translated by Rabindranath Tagore ~ Introduction by Evelyn Underhill ~ 1915

“In a cold autumnal afternoon, a wide array of fruit and vegetables caught my eye in a farmstand. Among green, yellow, orange and brown, these plump strawberries stood in a sharp bright pink contrast. / / From a closer look, their skin became surprisingly aglow in sheer fuchsia. They beckoned to me: Now, come closer, take a photograph on us!.” / / / / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. I never lure my animated subjects to come close to me: spontaneity is the key. / / This is an original uncropped image.

Watermelon , family Cucurbitaceae refers to both fruit and plant of a vine-like herb originally from southern Africa and one of the most common types of melon. This flowering plant produces a special type of fruit known by botanists as a pepo. The watermelon fruit, loosely considered a type of melon, has a smooth exterior rind and a juicy, sweet, usually red or yellow, but sometimes orange, interior flesh. The flesh consists of highly developed placental tissue within the fruit.

Probably the one planet a gardener wants to visit before there personal flower goes to seed,is Botanicalius Prime. It lies in the Gartec system,at the edge of galaxy M95. / The planet spins very slowly around the sun “Gartec” making the days very long. / It is a hot and very humid world, the riot of color alone is enough to blow your mind,a wealth of flowers, plants, and fruits that go far beyond the spectrum even into the infrared. / The planet is privately owned by a consortium of growers and of course the blooms and fruits are for sale….....at a price. / They are sold at a monthly auction held on planet “Blue Seed” above,it as the star-chart number 300000+ .They say only the very rich can afford them. / The word among the common folk is they think the figure is the opening bid,in credits. / I was lucky enough to take a few pic’s while visiting, normaly no pictures are aloud. .............An excerpt from Zoring Rakkmnn’s famous book” The Flora of Botanicalius Prime. 5th ed”.

My 86 year old father has been gardening all his life. He’s a natural at it and continues to provide his family with homegrown produce every year—watermelons, tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and squash. This one weighed in at 22 pounds! Mama does all the processing and cooking and works just as much magic in the kitchen as she and Daddy work in the garden where she’s the flower Queen and he’s the Produce King! When I see Daddy in this picture, I think of the verse from the Psalms: “They are planted in the house of the Lord, they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bring forth fruit in old age, they are ever full of sap and green.” (Psalm 92:13-14) Postscript: Daddy’s a firm believer in not wasting. When he goes to eat out at a restaurant, he often keeps the seeds of fruits and vegetables he really likes. He dries them and then plants them in little cups before putting them in the rich soil of his garden. This summer he had a bumper crop of the sweetest watermelons which he grew from the seeds he got from the Chinese restaurant where he and Mama like to eat. I can see in his and Mama’s attitudes some of the reasons why they’ve been tagged “the greatest generation.” Daddy served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was on the USS Yorktown when it was torpedoed and sank.
