  • The Flat Earth Society / “The facts are simple,” says Charles K. Johnson, president of the International Flat Earth Research Society. “The earth is flat.” He believes that the main purpose of the space program is to prop up a dying myth—the myth that the earth is a globe. “Nobody knows anything about the true shape of the world,” he contends. The sun and moon, in the Johnson version, are only about 32 miles in diameter. They circle above the earth in the vicinity of the equator, and their apparent rising and setting are tricks of perspective, like railroad tracks that appear to meet in the distance. The moon shines by its own light and is not eclipsed by the earth. Rather, lunar eclipses are caused by an unseen dark body occasionally passing in front of the moon. Johnson’s beliefs are firmly grounded in the Bible.

With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /

  • John Oliver Place IV
    by Gary L. Suddath

    US$5.32–US$121.60

Sepia Toned of a previous…Morning sun filters through the trees at John Olivers Cabin with a few dogwoods in the background…..The Oliver’s bought land in the Cove in 1826 and this cabin site remained in the family until the Park was established. The house is typical of many found on the eastern frontier in the mid-1850s, and reflects the skills and techniques brought into the mountains by descendants of British and European immigrants…..Split-rail fences require much more timber than other types of fences, and so are not common in areas where wood is scarce or expensive. However, they are very simple in their construction, and can be assembled with few tools even on hard or rocky ground. They also can be built without using any nails or other hardware; such hardware was often scarce in frontier locations. These fences are sometimes refered to as Worm Fence due to the back and forth placements…This cabin is located on the Cades Cove Loop Road, in the Great Smoky Mountain N.P.

Morning sun filters through the trees at John Olivers Cabin with a few dogwoods in the background…The cabin is almost completly surrounded by split-rail fence also…...The Oliver’s bought land in the Cove in 1826 and this cabin site remained in the family until the Park was established. • Frontier Days 1
    by Lori Peters

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Every year we celebrate the days when Colorado was first settled. It was not a state when this structure was built in 1859. It served as a courthouse, jail, community center and many other things. The homes in that are are fascinating to me. There is a picture on the wall of the first railway through Colorado. The area is called, Old Colorado City, Co.

  • “Seward is located directly on Resurrection Bay on the southeastern Kenai Peninsula. It is a picturesque community of around 4,000 residents nestled between high mountains ranges that fall precipitously to the sea. Cottonwood and spruce surround the city, and alder grows on the surrounding mountains. Seward is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, a stunning coastal marine setting rich in life that attracts eco-tourists by the boatloads. The downtown maintains a frontier-town atmosphere and just about everything leads to the numerous marinas on the bay. Seward calls itself, “Alaska’s Favorite Seaside Town”, and there is a lot of truth to that. For one thing, it is home to some of the finest sport fishing in the state. Anglers who travel here have the opportunity to venture into adjacent seas and catch giant Pacific halibut and trophy lingcod. While underway you can troll for the renowned king salmon or focus on fighting the much sought-after leaping silver salmon. Rockfish lay on the bottom, and pink salmon swim in between. And all of this takes place in and around Resurrection Bay at the edge of the Kenai Fjords, one of the most breathtaking costal panoramas of the entire region. Fresh water opportunities are available in some of the nearby streams with offerings of / king, pink, and silver salmon. Dolly Varden can also be found. While some of these opportunities can range from fair to even good, most anglers take to the surrounding seas or fish directly from the shore once the silvers have “hit the beaches”. Seward is justly famed for the rich fisheries resources not far from the harbor. With king (chinook) and silver (coho) salmon abundant in the waters of Resurrection Bay and nearby waters it is typical for anglers to come back at the end of the day with satisfying catches of salmon and the Pacific halibut that are also found nearby.” Read more here: seward alaska

  • This little rustic lodge, sits in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness in the Chugach Mountains, about 40 miles North of Valdez, near the Worthington Glacier and State Recreation Area, in a region known for it’s Heli-skiing… It was closed up when I passed it by and was also for sale… how my mind was spinning with wonder and fascination at the possibility of owning such a wonderful place, in the vast wilderness of the Last Frontier State of Alaska…. Cotton Candy Sky.

  • Smoky Mountain Rain
    by Gary L. Suddath

    US$5.32–US$121.60

A shower before the storm in the Great Smoky Mountains. This was made from the breezeway or dog-trot of Ephraim Bales Cabin, located along the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Two types of fencing can also be seen in the picture. A rock wall on the left and a wooden picket fence on the right. The sound of the rain falling in the forest was as relaxing for me as it was for Ephraim over a hundred years ago.

  • Illustration I did took 2 weeks to create, the theme is more related to RPG type of covers or books. Just a showcase of my work thats all. Thanks for viewing.

  • Henry Whitehead Place II
    by Gary L. Suddath

    US$5.32–US$121.60

The Henry Whitehead Place located just off the Cades Cove loop in the GSMNP…..A brick chimney, rare for the Smokies, was made of brick molded and fired on the property….the older cabin in back was built almost entirely with a felling axe under emergency circumstances. Rough-hewn logs with jagged ends, and the rubble stone chimney show the most hasty kind of construction. This pair of dwellings represents about the roughest and finest of log construction in the Smokies.

  • Unforgiving Frontier

Hi everyone / This is something i only saw after looking at it through the view finder, and was amazed. I instantly knew what i wanted to do with it, and it has turned out just that way. / It is actually a small amount of salt/calcium buildup on the side of our concrete water tank. I took the shot from below looking straight up towards the sky with a 105mm macro lens.

  • This Old Barn
    by Gary L. Suddath

    US$5.32–US$121.60

One of the more modern structures in Cades Cove. A lot of the barns that were there, have gradually fallen in and nature reclaimed them. I can remember back to when a few people still lived in the Cove. They were allowed to live there by an arrangement with the park service when the land was sold. They are all gone now including those that stayed in the cabins in the Elkmont area. This barn sits beside the Cades Cove Loop Road. It still is in great shape and will probably out live me. I wish I had thought and taken the time 30 years ago and shoot a lot of the structures that are forever gone. Hind site is always better than foresight. Never pass up a chance for a shot, what you pass up today may be gone tomorrow…a block and tackle was often hung from the overhang of the roof to pull hay up and into the window up top.. image taken as mornings 1st light tops over the ridge to warm the already beautiful colors, and intensify parts of the field back of the barn…Cades Cove is located in the Great Smoky Mountains and one of the more heavily visited areas.
