  • Quite friendly people, but sometimes strange things are happening…

  • The one I’m worried about!!

  • “As we moved deeper into the forest, the noise of the outside world began to fade. The forest floor was soft and damp while the smell of decomposing leaves wafted in the thick still air. Here and there splashes of sunlight shone through the thick canopy of leaves. Stories of this particular forest had been passed down through the generations in this small country town. Whispers of magic and strange lights at night had spread near and far. We were not disappointed for our adventure had just begun as we approached a giant oak tree which somehow seemed to come alive…............” Macro photograph taken from a paperbark tree. Aperture priority taken late in the afternoon which I find has the best lighting for what I like to achieve!

  • This profound quotation is commonly called St. Teresa’s Bookmark as it was found tucked into one of the great saint’s books. St. Teresa of Avila was a Carmelite nun who lived in Spain and was a great mystic and prolific spiritual writer. I created this image today for three people: for Barbara and Jerry, my mother’s neighbors who lost their home in a fire yesterday. All of their worldly possessions were destroyed in about thirty minutes. Barbara ran out of the house with her purse, her robe and house slippers, and the cup of coffee she was holding when smoke billowed everywhere. The other person I created this for is a friend, Brenda, who emailed me to say she was feeling low and needed a word of encouragement. I thought that these three people who are deeply troubled would be comforted by these words of enduring wisdom and truth. Maybe someone else needs to hear them, too. God help us all to remember that he alone suffices and he alone is unchanging and dependable.

  • This is the second of my images for my college project in which i am trying to produce ‘emotive’ portraits. This has been taken at the same location as Urban Playground (on a different day).

  • As soon as I came across this lone lamb, I was reminded of the old hymn by Ira Sankey, based on Matthew 18:13…. The Ninety and Nine. There were ninety and nine that safely lay / In the shelter of the fold. / But one was out on the hills away, / Far off from the gates of gold. / Away on the mountains wild and bare. / Away from the tender Shepherd’s care. / Away from the tender Shepherd’s care. “Lord, Thou hast here Thy ninety and nine; / Are they not enough for Thee?” / But the Shepherd made answer: “This of Mine / Has wandered away from Me; / And although the road be rough and steep, / I go to the desert to find My sheep, / I go to the desert to find My sheep.” But none of the ransomed ever knew / How deep were the waters crossed; / Nor how dark was the night the Lord passed through / Ere He found His sheep that was lost. / Out in the desert He heard its cry, / Sick and helpless and ready to die; / Sick and helpless and ready to die. “Lord, whence are those blood drops all the way / That mark out the mountain’s track?” / “They were shed for one who had gone astray / Ere the Shepherd could bring him back.” / “Lord, whence are Thy hands so rent and torn?” / “They are pierced tonight by many a thorn; / They are pierced tonight by many a thorn.” And all through the mountains, thunder riven / And up from the rocky steep, / There arose a glad cry to the gate of Heaven, / “Rejoice! I have found My sheep!” / And the angels echoed around the throne, / “Rejoice, for the Lord brings back His own! / Rejoice, for the Lord brings back His own!”

  • The Twilight Zone is an American television anthology series created by Rod Serling. Each episode (156 in the original series) is a mixture of self-contained fantasy, science fiction, suspense, or horror, often concluding with a macabre or unexpected twist. A popular and critical success, it introduced many Americans to serious science fiction and abstract ideas through television and also through a wide variety of Twilight Zone literature. The program followed in the tradition of earlier radio programs such as The Weird Circle and X Minus One and the radio work of Serling’s hero, dramatist Norman Corwin. • I used to spend a lot more time in thrift stores with my camera. Now that we are securely nestled in the age of paranoia, taking pictures of stuff people throw out has become more difficult. I’ve gotten tired of arguing with rent-a-cops and underpaid employees about how I’m not doing any harm & how if I was indeed casing the joint I’d use a less conspicuous camera. Like the one in my phone. Apparently resistance is futile in these situations. It’s a shame, because there is no end of fascinating things to photograph in a thrift store. I still sneak a few from time to time & some of the smaller stores will let you. If you ask nicely and wear sensible shoes. / Creepo the clown told me that if I didn’t take his photo he’d eat my soul. I obliged.
