  • This was taken at my friend Vave’s birthday a couple of weeks ago.

  • My little Maltese Shitzu; Millie in Black and White.

  • The Blue Thunder, my old best friend, is leaving me today. I tried to sell it, then give it away, and no takers, none at all. For 12 years, this car has been a home, a life-saver, a ferocious friend and protector, carried me and my animals across country and up and down the California coast.. And it still and always carries my heart in that great huge space, that massive steel Chevy. / At noon it’s being towed to the local fire department, and they’ll use it to practice rescues. I don’t want to think about it. I’m glad it won’t be cannibalized by strangers, and that it will serve as good training to people I like. / When I finally decided to do it, I cleaned out the interior. It’s been parked and not driven for a year now, next to my house. I cried first, and laughed hysterically at the find of acorns and torn up towels for some critter nest, packed into the dash and under the seats. Used well, after all, even while still. My old baby. / Au revoir. / Farewell, old buddy. 250,000 miles worth. The Blue Thunder saga follows: I spent from March to August talking a Virginia Farmer/Preacher out of this fantastic car. “I never part with my Suburbans. That’s all steel.” When he finally said yes and settled on a price,he and his son towed it out of the south forty witha tractor where it had been 10 years hubcap deep in mud. They did a tuneup, threw in a new battery, and allowed one new tire. “I don’t know, the other three look pretty good.” It was an 8 cylinder 1974 GMC, and almost everything worked. I headed west with my last six Brooklyn cats, the chocolate Labrador I’d fallen in love with in the Blue Ridge, and not much else. An Alabama garage mechanic had it up on the lift. “Lady, I never once seen tires with soil inside the rim!” We got three new ones. Texas: the radio, both wiper blades, and the muffler went in a downpour. We escaped a hurricane in Galveston. Some serious window leakage had started. The rear window crank bounced off in Arizona. By Davenport the master cyliner was shot and the brakes were gone by Monterey. The battery blew up in Pebble Beach. The radiator exploded in Carmel Valley. Since then, it’s had almost everything replaced. But Lord how I love it still. It’s been a home, a friend, a reliable force on the highways of America and in our national parks. It’s covered with travel stickers now, shiny in parts, safe, and resting. Right outside the door. The inspiration for “The Gandy Dancer.” Pen & Ink Drawing, from”The Gandy Dancer & Other Short Stories” Trafford 2004, or amazon.com, by BD Sparhawk.

  • Just to help her along just now and cheer her up a bit! Taken yesterday at Dawyck (pronounced ‘doik’) Botanic Garden near Peebles, not far from that fabulous health spa Stobo Castle. Mind you when you can look at a gift of nature like this fabulous Rhoddodendron like surely that’s all we need to feed our souls! I feel passionately about flower photography and it’s ability to make us feel happy just by looking at a wonderful bloom!

  • Portrait of “Bubby” at Cabbaritta Beach….Percheron X Anglo Arab… Summer days in the shade #2… / THE HEART OF A HORSE…. / Author unknown… When your day seems out of balance / And so many things go wrong… / When people fight around you / And the clock drags on so long… When most folks act like children, / And fill you with remorse, / Go out into your pasture… / Wrap your arms around your horse. His gental breath enfolds you, / As he watches with those eyes / He may not have a PHD but he is, oh, so wise! His head rests on your shoulder… / You embrace him good and tight; / He puts your world in balance, / And makes it all seem right. Your tears will soon stop flowing, / The tension will be eased. / The nonsense has been lifted, / You are quiet and at peace. So when you need some balance / From the stresses in your day… / The best therepy you can seek… / Is out there eating hay…

  • This is Krywan…a Tatra or a Polish sheepdog and he’s big!! They even attacked bears when they came too close to the herd. / It’s my best friend’s best friend an he’s a baby…the dog I mean =) But he’s a bit overwhelming when you play with this giant. Acrylics on panel, 50×60 cm

  • Cuddling her pet rabbit Whitey in her arms, Alice asks Whitey if there is another world out there that is more exciting, more colourful and more unpredictable than the one she’s living now. It scares Alice to think that the rest of her life would be focused on just going to school, finding a good match, have children and then end up as ashes in the grave….”These things are good to have..but there must be some other factors that undergirds these things.” Whitey is just as lost as Alice. “Perhaps the answer is having a dream…and a good sense of adventure in life to accompany this quest.”Alice said in a quiet and confident tone. /

  • The Arrow of Orion laces across the night sky above Ft Smith, NWT, Canada. It is the ordnance of the Bow Of Orion

  • A young friend of mine, invited me to a music assembly at her school. The assembly was to celebrate several people through history that have contributed to the music world. Most of the students had red t-shirts on and there were several different color lights on stage. The children moved around on stage and down in front of the stage. I thought this would be a good time to use, the panning of the camera.

  • Our two male cats just love each other.

  • This was my first attempt at anything digital, I was just fooling around with it one night and I ended up really liking the result, hope you do as well. Both photographs used in this belong to me. Model is Mikey (Did you doubt it?)

  • The small ‘blankey’ Jimmy was resting on had some colour in it, Jimmy’s eyes have colour in them, and there’s some pink on his nose. But as soon as I looked at this shot the way I view most photography – by contrasts instead of hues – it jumped out at me in B&W. PhotoShop CS4 did a remarkable job of nabbing the light in so many different ways that I almost deleted the colour file completely. Editing inspired by Karirose and her love of The Rule Of Thirds and directed by EBMonster mentoring: ‘Cut off the boring parts!! Chop until it looks like art!!’ In the end, James got to keep most of his face intact (even if off to a “third”) and I’m starting to like the subtle movement away from me shooting as if I’m doing photo documentation. Nobody needs to see the tip-tops of Jimmy’s ears hairs…nobody except me and I already know what they look like

  • All I have to do is look at Mikey and he does this little flip over \”I’m-a-dork-please-pet-me-right-now-thing\”. / It works…I pet him.

  • I am Lion.
