  • I AM NOT AN ARTIST I AM JUST A MAN WHO PAINTS.L.S.LOWRY).... I have been painting as an amateur artist on and off for many years.I have over the years developed a very unusual use of colour and content, which I now know from experience appeal to many people, Including individual collectors and dealers. Newcastle upon Tyne England has been a hotbed of heavy Industry since the beginning of the industrial revolution, most of which has now gone forever. A lot of my paintings are recollections of youthful images of the period, late 1940s and 1950s. They are inspired by local naïve and primitive pitmen artists I am also an admirer of L.S.LOWRY, and the great American artist EDWARD HOPPER .AND GRANMA MOSES among others. • Frangipani Fresh is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper, i enjoyed doing this one very much…..quick strokes with the ink and lots of watered down acrylic, so it was inklike…...also charcoal. One day i was in this groovy little shop in Byron Bay and an english tourist was chatting to the shop owner, i had to try not to giggle, because they were raving about how gorgeous these little wooden frangipanis were that float in the water as a display…...BUT the shop lady was calling them FRANGI-PANGIS (frangee-pangees)....omigosh, so funny!!! /

  • So there I was, just out for a walk along the beach at sunset. The explosive thermo-nuclear sunset to the west was begging for my attention, but to the east was this little black cloud, hoping to slip by un-noticed and join in all the sunset fun with the other clouds. I caught him in no man’s land, with nowhere to hide. I let rip with a 12 megapixel onslaught, and the rest is history. This image is brand new and will be removed when the quota is reached. In other words: it’s a limited edition. Crops and resizes by request. For more, see my portfolio. Ta.

I took this image, along with several hundred others, as it was raining, a wonderful light misty gentle rain, and the soft natural colours in midday light are enchanting. I brought home a cutting for my garden. At this time I have collected five varieties of the lovely Plumeria here on Maui, and of them all, this one is my favourite. It is so beautiful. Slight adjustments in Curves to set the White Balance and a final adjustment in Contrast. Natural colours, it is a gorgeous tree. “Plumeria, common name Frangipani; syn. Himatanthus Willd. ex Roem. & Schult.) is a small genus of 7-8 species native to tropical and subtropical Americas. The genus consists of mainly deciduous shrubs and trees. It produces flowers ranging from yellow to pink depending on form or cultivar. From Mexico and Central America, Plumeria has spread to all tropical areas of the world, especially Hawai`i, where it grows so abundantly that many people think that it is indigenous here. The genus, originally spelled Plumiera, is named in honour of the seventeenth-century French botanist Charles Plumier, who traveled to the New World documenting many plant and animal species. The common name “Frangipani” comes from an Italian noble family, a sixteenth-century marquess of which invented a plumeria-scented perfume. In Mexico, the Nahuatl (Aztec language) name for this plant is “cacalloxochitl” which means “crow flower.” It was used for many medicinal purposes such as salves and ointments. Depending on location, many other common names exist: “Kembang Kamboja” in Indonesia, “Temple Tree” or “Champa” in India, “Kalachuchi” in the Philippines, “Araliya” or “Pansal Mal” in Sri Lanka, “Champa” in Laos, “Lantom” or “Leelaawadee” in Thai. Many English speakers also simply use the generic name “plumeria”. In several Pacific islands, such as Tahiti, Fiji, Hawai`i, Tonga and the Cook Islands Plumeria is used for making leis. In modern Polynesian culture, it can be worn by women to indicate their relationship status – over the right ear if seeking a relationship, and over the left if taken. P. alba is the national flower of Nicaragua and Laos, where it is known under the local name “Sacuanjoche” (Nicaragua) and “Champa” (Laos). Information Source: Wikipedia The beautiful Plumeria comes in a wide variety of delightful colours and bloom virtually year round. Plumeria (Frangipani) also known as the Lei flower, is native to warm tropical areas of the Pacific Islands, Caribbean, South America and Mexico. Plumerias may grow to be large shrubs or even small trees in the Hawaiian Islands and in mild areas of the U.S on the mainland. In tropical regions, Plumeria may reach a height of 30’ to 40’ and half as wide. They have widely spaced thick succulent branches, round or pointed, long leather, fleshy leaves in clusters near the branch tips. Plumeria are true tropical flowering trees, also known as Frangipani or the Temple Tree, and the fragrant flowers are often used to make Hawaiian leis. They may be grown in containers, in the ground, or in containers sunk in the ground. During the months of active growth, ample sun, water and food are essential. Healthy plumeria will bloom regularly and abundantly when they receive at least 6 to 8 hours of full sun per day. They are heavy feeders and will bloom and grow vigorously with enough of the proper foods. Plumeria love lots of water, but cannot tolerate wet feet, so they must be planted in fast draining soil or in beds with adequate drainage. The fragrance is wonderful with hints of jasmine. This lovely beauty is blooming near the Taro fields of Ke’anae Peninsula, Maui Hawai’i. Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi / Shooting Date/Time 07 June 2009
