  • HDR image of Norfolk Southern Engine No. 5663 slowing for a railroad crossing in Montandon, PA. I just love the “Ferrari like” horse logo on the engine. HDR Images / Prague Images / Aviation Related Images

  • From a rubber stamp i carved, with lots of color & details added. my dream one day is to hop a freight train

  • The tattoo of the freight train, engine, boxcar & caboose goes around my wrist like a bracelet. The lady who did these, Dana Tyrell, is a true artist. She did these, Noah’s Ark (coming up later), & my two Rat Girls. These were done in 1997

  • ...probably Roseville, CA’s railyard for most of it and then to all points of the compass. I was illegally on another train’s trestle to take this series, in a place where I’ve seen hobo’s and homeless for years. I decided to go illegal from on the tracks rather than in a boxcar to who-knows-where. LOL!

  • A trip on the East Lancashire Railway is journey back in time. It was opened in 1846 to link the Manchester to Bolton line with Radcliffe and was a popular passenger and freight route which served the Irwell Valley from Bury, via Ramsbottom, to Rawtenstall and beyond. 1972 saw the last passengers travel on the Bury to Rawtenstall section, and that would have been the end of an era had the East Lancashire Preservation Society not been committed to restoring the line to its former glory. With assistance from Bury and Rossendale Councils, the line was reopened in 1991. The traditional station buildings and developments along the tracks have contributed to the Society being presented with a number of environmental awards. Work continued to finally complete the railways extension to Heywood.

Background Information: / Jasper is a specialized municipality in western Alberta, Canada. It is the commercial center of Jasper National Park, located in the Canadian Rockies in the Athabasca River valley. Jasper is 362 kilometres (225 mi), or approximately 3 1/2 hours west of Edmonton. Jasper is 290 kilometres (180 mi) north of Banff, Alberta, with the Icefields Parkway connecting the Jasper townsite to Lake Louise in Banff National Park. It was established as a specialized municipality on July 20, 2001 and the governance of Jasper is shared between the Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada Agency. Jasper House was first a Northwest Company, and later Hudson’s Bay Company, fur trade outpost on the York Factory Express trade route to Fort Vancouver on the lower Columbia River. Jasper National Park was established in 1907, with the Canadian Northern Railway beginning service to Jasper in 1912. The Jasper townsite was surveyed in 1913 by H. Matheson. By 1931, Jasper was accessible by road from Edmonton, and in 1940 the scenic Icefields Parkway opened, connecting Banff and Jasper. source: wikipedia Train / Mooring Post / Sunset in Tofino /

  • While driving into the setting sun towards Bristol TN, I noticed this ominous looking sky in the rear view mirror. Searching for a suitable subject, I came across this Peterbilt Truck, which looked like it just returned home from a long haul. Light HDR processing applied.

  • A CN locomotive seen in Dartmouth , Nova Scotia after a snowstorm in november 2008.

  • Sunset shortly after taking off from Fayetteville Arkansas. The colors may seem oversaturated, but that’s pretty much what it really looked like. All I did was a minor level adjustment to darken the engine and clouds. I also selectively added a small amount of contrast to the clouds by themselves.

  • Detail of an abandoned freight car from somewhere in Budapest 10th district.

  • I found this special juxtaposition on a freight yard somewhere in Budapest 10th district.

  • A Burlington Northern – Santa Fe (BNSF) intermodal freight train rounds the bend near Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico, USA. This was taken from an overpass off old route 66, just a mile or two from Interstate-40. Pentax K20D, ISO 100, F11, 1/90, 55mm.

  • The Victorian Railways was the state government department responsible for operating railways in the Australian state of Victoria from 1859 to 1983. In 1961, a standard-gauge rail line was built from Albury to Melbourne, allowing trains from the national rail network to operate through without the break-of-gauge problems that had existed for the 80 or so years previous. To celebrate, the Victorian Railways held a competition to find a “symbol, sign or slogan” to be carried on new freight vehicles for the line. The winner was an 18 year old art student from Bentleigh, who submitted this design. By the 1970s, most freight vehicles on the Victorian Railways wore this simple yet futuristic logo. Note: This logo is reproduced here on the fair assumption that it is considered abandoned, as it represents an entity that no longer exists.

  • A Burlington Northern – Santa Fe (BNSF) freight hauler, headed by old Santa Fe engine 640, traverses the New Mexico desert on the outskirts of Grants. As always, we got a friendly wave and toot from the engineer. Pentax K20D, 1/200 @ F13, 70mm, iSO 100.

  • I took this last weekend on a morning wander in Pullman along a path that follows the old railway line for a bit- one of my favorite ways to walk. More importantly I took it with my new camera, a Canon Rebel XSi :D I already wish I had more time to play with it but I suppose if I hadn’t taken 7 classes this semester to graduate while scholarships are still paying I wouldn’t have had the money to get a camera at all… I’m hoping to have more time for photography this summer though! /

  • “Life is a train of moods like a string of beads; and as we pass through them they prove to be many colored lenses, which paint the world their own hue, and each shows us only what lies in its own focus.” / ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

  • This is an HDR image created from a photograph I made of a freight train moving across the bottom of Glacier National Park in Montana. Canon EOS Rebel XTi Pseudo HDR created from single RAW image in Photomatrix.

  • An old freight station..remembering the past in Ohio

  • More than two centuries ago this place was named Sting Ray Harbour by Captain James Cook who just landed here in New Holland and caught few sting rays after a Sunday fishing trip. Renamed to Botany Bay later it is now a place of the major port in Australia, Port Botany. A number of berths for container ships and bulk liquid carriers allows for handling of around 10 million tons of various imports and exports in a year. 10 mil. tonnes that’s about 256 Sydney Harbour Bridges exported. If you are still wondering why did I say New Holland, that was the name of the continent at the time. Common for 180 years it was changed to Australia in 1824. For this picture I made a number of photographs from the tripod with different exposures and a hope that it might merge into a HDR. However, as there were many moving subjects (e.g. ship, water) it proved to be more rewarding to use the single RAW and tonemap it lightly. Numerous lights around the port created thick yellow tone on everything, so I have to reduce the color cast a bit and also enhance the contrast of some areas.
