There is some debate as to whether domestic dogs should be classified as omnivores or carnivores, by diet. Dogs are able to healthily digest a variety of foods including vegetables and grains, and in fact dogs can consume a large proportion of these in their diet. Wild canines not only eat available plants to obtain essential amino acids, but also obtain nutrients from vegetable matter from the stomach and intestinal contents of their herbivorous prey, which they usually consume. Domestic dogs can survive healthily on a reasonable and carefully designed vegetarian diet, particularly if eggs and milk products are included. Some sources suggest that a dog fed on a strict vegetarian diet without L-carnitine may develop dilated cardiomyopathy, however, L-carnitine is found in many nuts, seeds, beans, vegetables, fruits and whole grains. In the wild, dogs can survive on a vegetarian diet when animal prey is not available. Observation of extremely stressful conditions such as the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, and scientific studies of similar conditions has shown that high-protein (approximately 40%) diets including meat help prevent damage to muscle tissue in dogs and some other mammals. This level of protein corresponds to the percentage of protein found in the wild dog’s diet when prey is abundant; higher levels of protein seem to confer no added benefit. Dogs frequently eat grass, which is a harmless activity. Explanations abound, but rationales such as that it neutralizes acid, or that dogs eat grass to induce vomiting to remove unwanted substances from their stomachs, are at best educated guesses. This is the total sum of my freezer space now. Not a lot of room in there but I love not having to dig deep to find anything! / /
This is another shot of the 1918 barn in Kentucky. The foundation is made from rock. The owners still use this barn and have a functioning farm. I haven’t altered this photo in any way. Thank you for stopping by.
Part 1 of the “Herbivores Revenge” series. Concept I planned ages ago but had a little trouble getting Daisy her mask – eventually sourcing in Sydney. Special thanks also to the Butchered Butcher and OzUnderground for the makeup work.

Seeing it’s Winter here in the Southern Hemisphere I thought I’d look through some past shots I’d done at this time of year, and found this one taken just out of Daylesford in Victoria a few years ago. Took a turn off the main road to see the first snow for the season around some small towns in the region.

September 1st,the start of another Month that I hoped would be an improvement on the others..but No! / Awoke yesterday morning and noticed that the fridge freezer was showing a red warning light on the front..alarm bells rang immediately. / On opening the freezer door, everything was defrosted including Steak,Joints of Beef,Chicken,Bangers and everything that a freezer holds, all destroyed and there was nothing I could do. / I had only last week filled the freezer up! / Everything was unsalvagable and I got onto the Insurance people and made a claim which I have never had to do before. / The young lady was very capable and stated that I would have to pay the excess of £50,but she put in the claim for me on the phone. / Resulting in the payment of £250 for the food, not too bad but would have liked a bit more to replace the freezer. / Hubby decided to take down a cupboard because the height of the Fridge freezers are pretty big,but on removing the cupboard broke the tiling as he went, what a bloody cock-up,the guy would be dangerous if he had a brain cell! / Arguements carried on with hubby as we drove to shops to replace the fridge freezer. / On finding one or two we asked for free delivery as advertised, but if we wanted it quickly we would have to pay for it,besides the one I wanted was out of stock so that went down the pan. / Onwards and upwards onto another shop, found the same F/F but no free delivery and it was more expensive,so I got a bee in my bonnet and stormed out of the store. / Came home and the smell of gas was overpowering and I couldn’t believe that he had left the bloody thing running in situ when it was friggin broke! / I told him to put the thing outside in the garden, and my next door neighbour put our milk, butter, chees etc in his fridge for us until we had a replacement which I hoped would have been yesterday, but after searching the internet for literally hours on end, from 3pm until 10.15 pm,I gave up the ghost and collapsed into bed, angry, tormented and starving hungry to boot. / September 2nd,back onto the internet to do more searches for something, anything, that would be delivered today. / I couldn’t care less what bloody colour, make or size it was,I just wanted a fridge freezer! / Nothing at all came back,so back into the car and today I drove like a bat out of hell to another store. / Found one that I liked, bit pricey but it could be delivered tomorrow and I asked if it would be possible to get it today but the response was no. / I had to settle for what I had chosen and came away feeling I had achieved something, not much of an achievement but better than a kick in the teeth. / Walking into the kitchen, the state of the tiles and the wallpaper made me realise that I would need to move pretty fast to get the place in order for the imminent delivery of New Fridge Freezer. / Told the Old Man to strip off the paper and make good the walls while I went out to pick up some new wallpaper from our local shop which s a 10 mile round trip, and I would start it as soon as I got home. / Arrived at the store and found a pleasant kitchen wallpaper, but couldn’t see any rolls anywhere,so went to the help dask and asked the assistant about where I get the paper from. / Response was: / “You write down the number of the paper, give it to me,you pay for it and the wallpaper would be available in 3 to 5 days!” / I was gobsmacked at this and told her to tell the management that their priorities are screwed up and potential customers will give the company a wide berth if this is the way we are treated. / What the hell do we have to do to get a few rolls of wallpaper placed in our hands as we pay for it as we used to do,it seems they want the money up front or we go without. / Despondent and in total despair,I drove home because I would have had to go a further 20 miles for wallpaper and to be honest,I was in the wrong frame of mind to drive safely. / So the kitchen looks like a bomb has hit it,stuff lying all over the place because he took down the cupboard and now with no paper and broken tiles, the only place I feel safe in this house is in my little computer room. / Roll on October.
Here we have a view down to my village around christmas time 2008…
Captured in the frozen depths of my refridgerator. 1960’s original Dam Thing Troll, along with a genuine Wild Hairy Haggis, made by the Wellwood Craft Workshop, Selkirk, Scotland. I think it may be time to defrost the freezer…..
A shot of a big ice stick after a time in the freezer, place under cold water …it cracked up!!! I wanted to keep it for more shots, you can imagine what happened after I poured out water on it to get rid of the frost…so I tried different angles and put it over different things in the house with that result.Half white and half red…I created the heart with photoshop but the rest of the pic is untouched…just for fun…I’ve made a duo out of it called…”Pearl” / /
