WILD AND FREE / / To spend an hour with Mountain Gorillas is one of the best wildlife experiences you can ever hope for. They captivate you with their eyes and you become lost in the moment. Your time with them goes so fast you are left just wanting more… / / / Unfortunately, Mountain Gorilla numbers are small, with only approximately 700 left in the wild. The primary threat comes from forest clearance and degradation, as the region’s growing human population struggles to eke out a living. I am hopeful ways can be found to control these problems before it is too late. / / (Virunga volcanoes – Rwanda) / /

Clouds above and clouds rolling silently down the rocky slopes to the foot of the mountain, the cool air moist on my face, fresh smell of pine, an all-encompassing experience that cleanses the soul.

soft pastel on canson, processed in PSP with Fractilius effect. I painted this one in October of 2000, the day my divorce was final. I heard this song on the radio as I drove home from the courthouse and was inspired…...... it was a good day, the beginning of freedom…...... Listen to Tom Petty
Here’s another instalment tour into The Hidden Land. / As before, this collection features rocks and minerals highlighting their unique properties and formations. I always try to take as macro a shot as I can without loosing too much information about my subjects. With this series, I was handicapped as the specimens were behind glass cases; they were taken at the Australian Museum. I also only had what light was available there so positioning myself to get the best angles was key to capturing the images I wanted. ...it’s hard to choose a favourite from my collections, but this by far on the top of the list… Pyrite Spheres in Shale / see Fortress for mineral description
In the depths of winter .. in a place where no one goes .. wild horses run fast and free .. the mighty stallion feels the freedom in his heart and his wild soul is one with the night
