This picture was taken whilst visiting Fraser Island with my family in 2005. The photo captures the Maheno Shipwreck in all of it’s rusted glory.

A creek that is the most crystal clear we have ever seen, this was taken in 2002…
after a long day fishing and playing we sat here on the jetty at Kingfisher Bay to watch the sun set on a beautiful day…
the faster you go, the more you get to see!

We took a 4wd tour over to Fraser Island and one of the vehicles disturbed this flock of gulls whilst we went tearing along the sand. It was a pretty spectacular sight. Best Viewed Larger ©2008 phoggy

Arrr…, memories now of a lovely romantic holiday sitting on the beach of Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia. To think SHE was reading a book….! As is, from the Canon with standard 55 mm lens.
The Maheno, the most famous of the Fraser Island wrecks, was driven ashore just north of Happy Valley during a cyclone in 1935. Once a well-known trans-Tasman liner,
What else should I call it…If you have been to Fraser Island you have also seen this wreck. The challenge for me were the king tides. / High Tide was at 9am but even before sunrise at 5am the tides were coming in so strong that I had to leave before sunrise. Otherwise I would have been stuck here (but safe) for many hours. / You are not supposed to camp 500m either side of the wreck…well, I didn’t camp. Just had a power sleep in the car as I really wanted to capture the wreck at night and then at dawn. And guess what…I was the only one…haha, no tourists

Fraser is an island of great contrast in such a small sapce, just 123kms long and 22 kms at it’s widest. It is the largest sand island in the world. Immense sand blows and cliffs of coloured sands form the most complete age sequence of coastal dune systems in the world. This image depicts the Wungul Sand Blow, up behind Dundubara camping ground. On the island, there are more than 100 freshwater lakes; tea tree (tannin) stained and clear blue water covering silica rich white sand and flanked by trees to the waters edge. Tropical rainforest are present in pockets, home to rare species and crystal clear, silent creeks. Ramsar listed wetlands thrive, home to rare patterned ferns, mangroves, sea-grass beds and up to 40,000 migratory shorebirds. Rare, vulnerable or endangered species shelter on the island and in its surrounding waters; dugongs, turtles, Illidge’s ant-blue butterflies and eastern curlews. / / Fraser is the ultimate Eco Retreat. As cyclone Hamish approaches the Fraser Coast, the clouds turned rather erie, wind was picking up, and you got the feeling it’s time to move. First day using my Ultra Wide lens, Rainbow Beach, looking North over Fraser Island coastline. Canon 50D, 10mm ultra wide. Available very large, best viewed LARGE :)
