St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe Sitting in the center of the town square in Santa Fe, New Mexico stands the St. Francis of Assisi Church. Built between the years of 1869-1886, it sits on an earlier site of a church built in 1626. This was a REALLY hard shotto pull off as the town center square is filled with people so I had to act quickly. I fired off 3 brackets handheld for the HDR and metered at the bricks on teh church…hoping this was going to work….I think it did. Thoughts most welcomed! / —John http://www.redbubble.com/products/configure/2720872

This shot was taken at Dawn from the building I work in it shows the Spire of St Francis Xavier Church at Lavender Bay in the North Sydney CBD. The Sydney Harbour Bridge links the North Sydney CBD with the Sydney CBD. There has been a church on the site since the early days of the settlement of the colony of Sydney Town. The shot was taken using a Nikon D300, Nikon 18 – 200mm lens , for any Nikononians the 18-200mm lens is wonderful it comes in handy as a all purose lens. The shot was created from 4 exposures and processed with Photomatix HDR software. So continues my exploration of HDR.. its fun
Fort Meigs State Memorial Park—Perrysburg, Ohio When two new States were admitted to the Union (Kentucky and Vermont), a resolution was adopted in January of 1794, expanding the flag to 15 stars and 15 stripes. This flag was the official flag of our country from 1795 to 1818, and was prominent in many historic events. It inspired Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner” during the bombardment of Fort McHenry; it was the first flag to be flown over a fortress of the Old World when American Marine and Naval forces raised it above the pirate stronghold in Tripoli on April 27, 1805; it was the ensign of American forces in the Battle of Lake Erie in September of 1813; and it was flown by General Jackson in New Orleans in January of 1815. The five Presidents who served under this flag were; George Washington (1789-1797), John Adams (1797-1801), Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809), James Madison (1809-1817), and James Monroe (1817-1825).

On December 13, 1577, Drake, commanding the Golden Hind, left Plymouth with four other vessels with the story that they were sailing to Alexandria, Egypt. Almost three years later, Drake returned without his escorts on September 26, 1580, after circumnavigating the globe. There must be a beginning of any great matter, but the continuing unto the end until it be thoroughly finished yields the true glory. / Words by Francis Drake Acrylics, pigment, inks and gold foil / 100×42cm on paper / Music
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace; / where there is hatred, let me sow love; / where there is injury, pardon; / where there is doubt, faith; / where there is despair, hope; / where there is darkness, light; / and where there is sadness, joy. / O Divine Master, / grant that I may not so much seek / to be consoled as to console, / to be understood as to understand, / to be loved, as to love; / for it is in giving that we receive, / it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, / and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. St. Francis of Assisi Photo taken in my back yard where I have a St. Francis statue/fountain and where the songbirds love to congregate.

I was working on two of the same model today (:iconfaestock:) and was not going to post this one – but my daughter said I should—so, up it goes. I did this one in honor of Santa Chiara (Saint Clare of Assisi)... / This picture reminds me of her once I finished it….. / (I’m a Third Order Franciscan – lay order of people who follow in the spirituality of Saints Francis and Clare). Anyway – hope you like it – it’s nothin’ fancy – but just something small from my heart to Saint Clare’s. ;-) To read more about her you can go to her wikipedia page at: / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clare_of_Assisi Pace e Bene! Finally – more male stuff! birdsistersstock.deviantart.com / lucieg-stock.deviantart.com “Boy from the Country” – by Michael Murphy sung by John Denver / Originally this song was written about Saint Francis - John Denver told me that back in 1985 - and it has been a favorite of mine ever since. / I thought this young man fit the song…. Because he called the forest brother / Because he called the earth his mother / They drove him out into the rain / Some people even said the boy from the country was insane Because he spoke with fish in the creek / He tried to tell us that the animals could speak / Who knows, perhaps they do / How do you know they dont / Just because theyve never spoken to you Boy from the country, he left his home when he was young / Boy from the country, he loves the sun He tried to tell us that we should love the land / We turned our heads and laughed / And we did not understand / Sometimes I think that the boy from the country / Is the only one who sees / Because the boy from the country / Doesnt want to see the forest for the trees Boy from the country, he left his home when he was young / Boy from the country, he loves the sun
Did you ever visit a place where you completely forget what year it is now? Once we walked through the front gate of the brewery we thought we stepped into 1850s. I would call it The Time Machine of Goulburn city. You walk in and for $5.20 it takes you 150 years back (tastings included). Built in the middle of 19 century it is one of the oldest surviving breweries in Australia. Beautiful place, with a lot of history in it and it is history that can be seen, touched and photographed. And the best part – it is a working brewery where good old traditional ale is still produced. This was a situation where I wished I had a wider lens than my universal Nikon 18-200mm. The window was very close to a wall and it was hard to fill the frame. I managed to find a little square of space on the stairs leading to the 2nd floor and set up my tripod there. Next steps were easy: 3 RAW merged in HDR, then tonemapped and post-processed. From my photoblog at http://www.bouncedphoton.com This print is available with 0% markup. Please enjoy and thank you for your visit! Winner of Your Best HDR Work of Windows and Doors
nekoha-stock.deviantart.com / sxc.hu / and my own resources My depiction of Saint Clare as she is about to join San Francesco Cofoundress of the Order of Poor Ladies, or Clares, and first Abbess of San Damiano; born at Assisi, 16 July, 1194; died there 11 August, 1253. She was the eldest daughter of Favorino Scifi, Count of Sasso-Rosso, the wealthy representative of an ancient Roman family, who owned a large palace in Assisi and a castle on the slope of Mount Subasio. Such at least is the traditional account. Her mother, Bl. Ortolana, belonged to the noble family of Fiumi and was conspicuous for her zeal and piety. From her earliest years Clare seems to have been endowed with the rarest virtues. As a child she was most devoted to prayer and to practices of mortification, and as she passed into girlhood her distaste for the world and her yearning for a more spiritual life increased. She was eighteen years of age when St. Francis came to preach the Lenten course in the church of San Giorgio at Assisi. The inspired words of the Poverello kindled a flame in the heart of Clare; she sought him out secretly and begged him to help her that she too might live “after the manner of the holy Gospel”. St. Francis, who at once recognized in Clare one of those chosen souls destined by God for great things, and who also, doubtless, foresaw that many would follow her example, promised to assist her. On Palm Sunday Clare, arrayed in all her finery, attended high Mass at the cathedral, but when the others pressed forward to the altar-rail to receive a branch of palm, she remained in her place as if rapt in a dream. All eyes were upon the young girl as the bishop descended from the sanctuary and placed the palm in her hand. That was the last time the world beheld Clare. On the night of the same day she secretly left her father’s house, by St. Francis’s advice and, accompanied by her aunt Bianca and another companion, proceeded to the humble chapel of the Porziuncula, where St. Francis and his disciples met her with lights in their hands. Clare then laid aside her rich dress, and St. Francis, having cut off her hair, clothed her in a rough tunic and a thick veil, and in this way the young heroine vowed herself to the service of Jesus Christ. This was 20 March, 1212. I’m adding this to “Let’s Pay Homage” group as I dedicate this to Santa Chiara – from my heart to hers.
