Alet is the village where I come from, my little home town. It is situated in the Pays Cathare (the Cathar Region) between Carcassonne and Quillan, this romanesque abbey was first founded in the 8th century and was destroyed during the wars of religion (in the 16th century). Only impressive ruins remain today : the church, the chapter house, the north door. / The church includes a nave with six bays flanked with two side aisles extended into a choir and a polygonal apse and a transept. / Inside the church, the decoration concerns essentially the apse, inspired by the antique repertoire whose themes give an impression of richness and magnificence : moulding cornices, bands with eggs and darts pattern, brackets and capitals with acanthuses leaves. In the 14th century the abbey was set up as bishop’s palace and then began the construction of a Gothic choir surrounding the Romanesque apse.

The narrow lanes are very nicely kept and painted in soft pastel colours. I`d think this must be an uplifting environment to live in…the year round. Collioure is by the Mediterranian Sea in the south of France.

This photo was taken from an elevated walkway/garden near Bastille in Paris. It’s a former rail line and offers some beautiful views. I thought that this image worked in black and white with some noise and a pop of colour (what caught my eye to begin with) of the awning
