A fantastic photographer here in Texas by the name of Fran Reisner, Fran Reisner Photography told me about The Twelve Elements of a Master Print.. She mentioned these elements to me after asking for a critique of my work. She told me that these elements are highly regarded guidelines used in print competitions, but they would be beneficial for me to use in critiquing my own work. Maybe you can use them too! Here are The Twelve Elements of a Master Print: Impact Creativity Style Composition Presentation Color balance/Tonal quality Center of Interest Lighting Subject matter Print quality Technique Storytelling Hope this helps!

In three weeks time, my wife and I are heading off to Europe, so that I can undertake a three week print making residency at the Frans Masereel Centre in Kasterlee, Belgium. This will be my first residency, and seems like the perfect way to combine two of my greatest loves – art and travel. I’d love to hear from anyone else who has undertaken a residency and what they thought of the experience.

FRANS LIST: ART Talent and personalities scream at Red Bubble. Art and artists that I’ve met here are nothing, if not exciting, inspiring, and shall I say it?: addictive. Thus, my spiritual mission, it seems, has caught up with me. Starting this month, I will feature artists in this space, weekly. The feature will include an interview, pictures, maybe video or audio links; if we’re lucky, an exclusive; and always art. It will give you a bright, new perspective on an artist of RB; one whom I believe is brilliant. Look for the title: “Frans List: Art”, plus a volume number (added for title uniqueness), in your watch list. NEW SOLO EXHIBIT GROUP / On a separate, but related note, while I have your attention: I plan to start a new “Solo Exhibit” group that features a single artist’s works across the feature board for a span of time. A solo exhibit, right here at Red Bubble. For instance, if you were the featured artist, your works would be the only ones shown on the feature board that (week or n-days). All media and styles will be encouraged. I’m looking for co-hosts, now. In case you’re wondering, co-hosting will not exclude you from exhibiting, or from being solo’d. It’s all good. Comment me here, and/or bubblemail me with your interest. :D

  • One Month-a-Versary on RB - What a Month!
    by F.A. Moore

Today is my one month birthday of being active on RB. YAY! Happy Birthday frannieann account! (Or is that one month-a-versary?) Finally, after living strictly a Commenter’s Life on RedBubble for a year and a half (!) (supporting a couple of friends here); last month, I uploaded a few digital artworks. My friend, Jill and I chatted about them. I was so happy for that. We had a good old time being philosophical. But no one else came. Not even RedBubble’s Home page. ;) Now, I love to host parties. And I’ve never had to worry about “nobody coming” to the party. It was obvious that I was missing something here. On June 10, 2009, one month ago, I submitted a new work, Life-Giver, to a couple of groups. BAM! Comments (Wow! Besides my pal, Jill! :) BAM! BAM! a Feature then another! (WOW) The Divine Feminine and Feminine Intent started it all, quickly followed by Core [C.O.R.E]! These three groups gave me my first five features. YAY!! They believed in ME! So I consider June 10th, 2009 my real birthday on Red Bubble; because it is when I reached out to join a few “groups” and took the brave first step to say, “H-e-l-loooooo, I’m h-e-e-e-re”! And they answered! In this first month, I’ve been so honored to have 18 artworks and 1 journal entry featured a total of 45 times. I won one challenge and placed in two more. Two of the artworks, Life-Giver and New American Landscape, have been featured by six groups each. The Choice-II, My Hero, and Sanctum have each been featured three times. I had my first collaboration, with Isa Rodriguez which resulted in 3 features for me and 2 for her, for the collaborative work, Hope Is the Thing With Feathers (Isa’s version is linked from there). All of the features are shown in medium thumbnail on my profile page, and the written work is linked. You might be interested to know that The Choice-II and Life-Giver are my most favorited works, in that order. In addition to all the features, for which I am so very grateful, and which encourage me to no end; I was approved to start two new groups, that are seeing submissions of very high quality: Southern United States Artists and Solo Exhibition. Levi Moore, a.k.a., artmonger is my cohost for SUSA, where the mission and focus is on live exhibitions across the southern U.S. Hans Bellani is my co-host for SOLO. Solo’s distinguishing characteristic is featuring one artist at a time on the feature board- having a solo exhibit for them. I’m also starting a weekly magazine for the group, “Inside Solo”. We’re holding a banner challenge now for the featured in “Inside Solo” web badge. (Still a little time to enter!) Inside Solo will highlight a few works each of a few members each week and provide art news, group news added by hosts of other groups, and resources. And last but not least, I have tapped a few artists to begin interviewing for Frans List: Art, which will be delivered in a multi-media format when possible, usually weekly, once it starts; and be focused on getting to know one special artist during each series special. Thank you for being a friend on Red Bubble, and encouraging me. It makes me better at art, and very, very happy! - / NEXT: Over the next couple of weeks, I will be focused on the two groups and starting production on the Frans List: Art series; and less focused on my own art and commenting. In fact, while I wanted to round out my first month nicely; I may forego working on personal art for this next month. I expect it will free up time to devote to some software I’m about ready to release and to get these two new groups and the feature series off the ground. Hopefully you will not forget me. :)
