The Mt Kaputar (pronounced cap you tar) National Park lies to the east of Narrabri (approximately 53Km) and to the west of Barraba (approximately 55Km). Mt Kaputar, on the western edge of the Great Dividing Range, is the highest point until you reach Africa, and from its peak (on a clear day), about 10 percent of New South Wales is visible for 360º. The Mt Kaputar National Park is very much a local secret and holds a diverse range of vegetation and wildlife, including many threatened species. As much as 17 million years of erosion has sculpted the now extinct Nandewar volcano and what is left offers a majestic skyline of rocky outcrops with spectacular views. Steve’s_Biography The koala is a small bear-like, tree-dwelling, herbivorous marsupial which averages about 9kg (20lb) in weight. Its fur is thick and usually ash grey with a tinge of brown in places. The koala gets its name from an ancient Aboriginal word meaning “no drink” because it receives over 90% of its hydration from the Eucalyptus leaves (also known as gum leaves) it eats, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves, ie during droughts etc. The koala is the only mammal, other than the Greater Glider and Ringtail Possum, which can survive on a diet of eucalyptus leaves.

Trinity and the University of Dublin form Ireland’s oldest and most prestigious university. Trinity is located in the centre of Dublin, Ireland, on College Green opposite the former Irish Houses of Parliament (now a branch of the Bank of Ireland). The campus occupies 190,000m2 (47 acres), with many buildings, both old and new, ranged around large courts (known as “squares”) and two playing fields. The Library of Trinity College is a copyright library for Ireland and the United Kingdom, containing over 4.5 million books and significant quantities of maps, manuscripts and music. Have searched websites trying to find the correct name for this flower – it is not a Clematis, it is not a Scabiosa – all suggestions welcome!! A bit of experimentation in CS3 led to this result. Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Pink Rebutia narvaecensis Rebutia is a genus in the family Cactaceae, containing 41 species and are native to Bolivia and Argentina. They are generally small, colorful cacti, globular in form, which freely produce flowers that are relatively large in relation to the body. They have no distinctive ribs, but do have regularly arranged small tubercles. They are considered fairly easy to grow and they may produce large quantities of seeds that germinate freely around the parent plant. Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Ruins of a Huon Pine Barge ============================================== / Featured in the Top 10 of Rusty_Crusty_and_Falling_to_Bits / Challenge Nautical_relics ============================================== / The discovery of rich deposits of copper at Mt Lyell led to the establishment of the Mt Lyell Mining Company in 1892. / Teepookana was situated at the highest navigable point of the river, where the township acted as a port facility for the Mt Lyell Mining and Railway Company, and home to about 200 people, mostly railway workers. / Two steamers, the “Pioneer” and “Eagle”, and over a dozen barges, or “lighters”, plied the King River, carrying coal, passengers, goods and mail for shipment by rail to the copper mines, and copper for shipment from the Strahan port facilities. / Today, the ruins of two Huon pine “lighters” can be seen at the Fishermens Wharf, Strahan. Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Purple Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) Common names: Foxglove, Purple Foxglove or Lady’s Glove Came across these beauties growing wild by the roadside. The foxglove is a familiar tall herb that produces 20-80 nodding flowers on a long spike. The tube-like flowers are pinkish-purple in colour, with an area of white inside the tube, which features darker purple spots. The common name derives from the Anglo-Saxon ‘foxes glofa’ meaning foxes gloves, and refers to the tubular flowers, which are suggestive of the gloves of a small animal.
