  • Work exhibited in the Visual Arts Association Group Exhibition ‘Four Seasons’, held Cairns Regional Gallery, Qld. / The exhibition theme was inspired by the Vivaldi’s music ‘The Four Seasons’. Mixed media – archival black ink, acrylic, collage – paper painted, mono & screen-printed, drawing, photo; screen-printed cotton fabric, carpet material; on canvas. Background: I had been working individually on art compositions relative to my passion to interpret music, rhythm, movement and energy through the use of formal visual art elements ie. line, colour, tone, shape, texture and art media. The interpretation of any music requires one’s senses to hear and feel, absorb sound and energies, to internalize and contemplate, as apposed to recording information seen/perceived through the eyes from the physical ‘outer’ world. One has to create and interpret a visionary abstract, from a pure transitional and spiritual sensual state, from one’s own internal environment, the knowledge, understanding and experience one brings to canvas for the moments of manifestation. I jumped at the chance when this exhibition theme came up. Also I am much inspired by Kandinsky and his work, a long time favourite art philosopher and mentor. ....................................... /

  • The climate here can be very changeable, and we joke about four seasons in one day. Well yesterday was like that – sun, rain, wind, fog, and generally cold. Here you can see a bit of sun, a bit of fog, some rain clouds and more of the splendid rainbow we had which lasted about two hours.

  • Linocut, unique state / Watercolour / Printed on Hahnemulle 300gsm paper (my favourite paper) Four Facts / 4 (four) is a number, numeral, and glyph. It is the natural number following 3 and preceding 5. Four is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. This is also true in several other languages, such as German, Afrikaans, Dutch, and Flemish, as “vier”.[citation needed] In mathematics Four is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. Four is also a highly composite number. The next highly composite number is 6. Four is the second square number, the second centered triangular number. 4 is the smallest squared prime (p2) and the only even number in this form. It has an aliquot sum of 3 which is itself prime. The aliquot sequence of 4 has 4 members (4,3,1,0) and is accordingly the first member of the 3-aliquot tree. Only one number has an aliquot sum of 4 and that is squared prime 9 The prime factorization of four is two times two. Four is the smallest composite number that is equal to the sum of its prime factors. (As a consequence of this, it is the smallest Smith number). However, it is the largest (and only) composite number n for which is false. / Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4_(number)

  • Combination one room school house, church, community building, and town hall. These structures are scattered through out the Ozark Mountains, and the foothills of Arkansas. Sooooooo…... These types of scenes are very familiar to me, living here in the good ol’ natural state. My very first years of school began in a one room school house almost identical to this one, and it is now long gone.. When I look at this photograph, I can still see us all running, and playing in the school yard, and hear all of our laughter, and screaming. All the sounds of the children playing, as we went along in our merry, carefree younger days. I remember…........

  • Collaboration with my good friend George , a.k.a. monocotylidono , who kindly trusted me with the post-processing of one of his beautiful flower shots. It was a pleasure and an honour to work on this project. George’s photos are so inspiring! When George saw my first draft, a title for this wilting tulip immediately sprang to his mind. Requiem for a Tulip ! I had started working with another sheet of music, celebrating the spring, but with this new title and orientation, George and I decided upon something moodier and darker, more appropriate for a flower’s death. I found the music scores of Requiem for a Dream by Clint Mansell, which I printed, photographed, then modified in Photoshop. I think that it blends very pleasantly with the subject. Below are all the layers used in the composite, with various blending modes and opacities. The original image and the green moss layer have both received a selective colour adjustment layer in order to tone down the yellow and greens a bit, and changing them to richer and deeper colours. Finally, on top of all the textures shown below, I added a transparent layer at low opacity, on which I used some large grunge brushes in black, to add scratches and dirt smudges to the corners and edges, creating a textured vignetting effect. Position your cursor over the thumbnails for more details on the images and how they were used in the composite / / / Should you wish to listen to George’s favourite inspiration for the title, just click on this link to the Requiem (Grande Messe des Morts) Lacrymosa by Hector Berlioz on YouTube. I must add that this is my favourite as well! For those who would like to listen to the music associated to the score in the composite, please click here for the soundtrack of the movie Requiem for a Dream Finished in 5th position of Top Ten in the Single Beautiful Tulip challenge of the Tulips Group on March 30, 2009 My friend George, aka monocotylidono entered his copy of this creation in the challenge Let’s Collaborate of the Live, Love, Dream Group, and it finished in 5th position of Top Ten ! Well done, George! :-)
