This is an amazing fountain in Vegeland Park, Oslo. A large bowl borne aloft by statues of men, set in a park filled with metal and granite statues of humanity at work, at play, in love, in conflict. An incredible place. But as for the fountain itself, I think it must be something about the shape of the bowl or the flow of the water that results in this incredible, almost smokey effect on the falling water.
Taken at Sydney’s Hyde Park using a sepia filter. /
Jenny and Jude, chillin’ at the park. That structure is supposed to be a fountain base, but I ran out of room, which is 100% of my reason for cropping anything the way I do. This one has no deeper meaning, but I’m sure we could scrounge one up if we tried. :) Jude is reading The Screwtape Letters and flipping a Romanian coin in his fingers. Jenny is wearing Salvation Army majorette boots because she genuinely thinks they’re cool (because they genuinely are, obviously).
Waited about 45 minutes to get this shot, wish I’d planned it a little better, composition seems a little linear but I’m still quite fond of it. (taken in Victoria Park, Sydney opposite Broadway Shopping Centre – think the goose lives there, go say hi for me)
An infrared photo I took a while ago… but I just found it again on my computer. The title is from the song playing at the moment on iTunes….I’m lost for inspiration – “One Crowded Hour” by Augie March from their album “Moo, You Bloody Choir” – well worth a listen if you haven’t heard it.
Well, I’m back from my trip to the farm …. back to civilization ..ie..the internet. I took lots of photos – way too many.. Here is one I took at a stop over in Sydney. This is a fountain at Olympic Park and naturally the first photo I post has to be infrared. PS..Can’t wait to check out all the work everyone posted while I was away =-)

The Ross Fountain in West Princes Street gardens with part of Edinburgh Castle (the Hospital block) in the background. Cast near Paris, France in the Durenne ironworks in the early 1860’s. It was an exhibit in the Great Exhibition in London in 1862 and was purchased for Edinburgh by Daniel Ross a local gun maker and philanthropist. After much deliberation as to what to do with it, it was finally assembled in West Princes Street Gardens in 1872. The gold coloured iron structure shows a standing naked woman at the top surrounded by four more seated naked nymphettes representing the arts, science, poetry and industry. Below the first tier are a collection of mermaids. The celebration of the naked female is typical of classical French design, but it wasn’t appreciated by everyone, Dean Ramsay (1793 – 1872) whose church, St. John’s was nearby called the fountain “grossly indecent and disgusting”. The Ross fountain is now a Category B listed structure of historic importance (HB Number 27911) under the care of Historic Scotland. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city of Edinburgh like no other castle in Scotland, and Edinburgh Castle is unequalled in the whole of the British Isles. Over one thousand years of history sit on top of the famous Edinburgh rock. In recent years there have been concerns about rocks falling from the cliffs onto the gardens below, so the rather ugly netting has been draped on the rock face. Hopefully, over time, it will weather enough to be less noticeable. Princes Street Gardens at the heart of Edinburgh’s City Centre were once a lake called Nor’ Loch. The Loch, which had been the trash dump of Edinburgh for centuries was drained in order to improve access from the New Town to the Old Town. Later, the Nor’ Loch was transformed into the beautiful Princes Street Gardens we see today. A cold morning during Fall in Yellowstone, enhances the vapours rising from the mud. The sunbeams break through the mist as if spotlighting the beauty of the tree skeleton. / A hard image to shoot, in that I was so overwhelmed by this scene of extreme beauty, I couldn’t concentrate too well ! / An early rise is required to catch a scene like this one, not a problem when you know Mother Nature is flaunting some of her best works in Yellowstone ! Shot on a CANON EOS 40D, with polarising filter, mounted on tripod, f11, 1/30 sec, ISO 100, Auto WB, RAW file, processed in Adobe PS CS3. The usual Curves/Levels adjustments, I selected and processed the bottom half separately to keep the blueness of the shady part as contrast to the warmer tones where the sun broke thru. A little dodging and burning to bring out those rays ! The horse sprays green water while the rest of Buckingham Fountain is aflame with colors. This fountain is set to music and changes color on cue with songs like God Bless America, every hour on the hour and is a feast of colors for those who gaze at it. All free for the public to enjoy in downtown Chicago.
