A few months ago a fellow redbubble member brought to our attention that images were being sought for the Kids Cancer Support Foundation Australia for a charity calendar, produced by Claire Hanna. / Seems she got overwelming support from redbubble members, offering to supply images for free. / I got an email from Claire last night advising one of my images was selected, and I’m particularly happy with this as I’m currently up to my 8 month battle with cancer. / On the PDF supplied the following redbubble members also had images selected for the calendar…. / James Pierce / Mark German / Alistar McBride / David Smith / Hope they sell heaps

Here on Redbubble I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of the most wonderful people, some face to face, and some online only. One who is a tireless worker, with fingers in many pies, is Rose Moxon. A great deal of the work she does is free, for good causes. Her most recent Redbubble cause is the Fred Hollows Foundation, and with the help of many other bubblers, this new calendar is the result. The price is ONLY $22, which means YOU are able to get yourself a quality calendar, with amazingly funny and interesting images, and the Fred Hollows Foundation gets $10 for every one that’s sold. We’ve managed to gain some sponsors, who will be contributing until the end of 2008, or until 100 calendars are sold!! All of the artists and models have given freely of their time and expertise to bring this awesome calendar to fruition, its a collaboration to beat all collaborations! Team work is what made it happen, and the results are a fantastic calendar and some lasting friendships. Two of the founders of Redbubble are featured, and some of the best artists and models anyone could hope for have taken part. Please, take a look, and if you’d like to help, either buy a calendar, or send a donation to the Fred Hollows Foundation
Then this should be the one… !http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/calendars/page:0/product:calendar/size:medium/view:preview/2043761…
Then this should be the one… A collaboration of epic proportions by the following Redbubble artists… Rose Moxon and Mel Brackstone (the brains behind the operation) / Julie Langford / Damian / Paul Vanzella / Martin Hosking / Billboy / Rhana Griffin / Kate O’Brien / Natalie Perkins / Bill Fonseca / Myself / Geoff Coleman / Nicole Goggins / Faizan Qureshi / Karen Cougan / LittleHelen / Richie Dean / and Mugsy It’s a little bit naughty and a whole lot of fun! The calendar has been put together to support the Fred Hollows Foundation, and thanks to our generous sponsors, for every calendar that’s sold, $6 will be going to the foundation, and the price is STILL only $22. Our anonymous sponsors will cover their donations to the sale of 100 calendars, or the end of the year 2008, whichever comes first. So check it out, have a laugh and support a great cause.
Compilation of images from the Middle East created by Redbubble artists. Each image was voted for by members of the Art of the Middle East group after contests and challenges. / All proceeds from the sale of this calendar are donated to the Peres Peace Foundation, to help bridge the gap between nations and people in the middle East. / please open your hearts and help to achieve our group goal. So there have been some teasers, and indications that I was planning something big here on Red Bubble. Well it’s now time for the big reveal (and please bear with me, speech making isn’t my strong suit), I’m re-igniting the spark of creativity to help a worthy cause, one that is very close to my heart. From now until the end of October all proceeds from the sales I make here on RedBubble and in real life, will be donated to a fledgling foundation. Not only that, but I’ll be producing and sharing new works during that period to help promote awareness and build support for the foundation, with an opening series appearing today! Well I don’t think I can really write an introduction to the Steven T. Hill Foundation, that does justice to the situation. Steve is a friend and co-worker who’s based in the US office of the company I work for, he’s a funny, outgoing guy that always made us feel welcome when we visited from “Down Under Oztralia”. At the tender age of 33, while on holiday he suffered a massive stroke, and due to a rare blood condition (CVST) he’s brain was both clotting and bleeding at the same time. Because some people are a bit sensitive around medical procedures I won’t go into more details, but let you read for yourself here Steven T. Hill Stroke Foundation Following Steve’s ever changing condition from Australia, I felt somewhat powerless to help, but felt the need to somehow contribute in some way. That’s when it occurred to me that not only could I donate money from my sales, but I could also spread the word to a wider reader base, that being the redbubble community and perhaps they could help come up with even more ideas or methods of support. So between now and October I’m making the effort to produce and share more of my work, and try to raise as much funds as I can to help out a friend, and a foundation that will be around for years to come to help other stroke victims. So why is this titled Life is Like A Monkey ? Well that was Steve’s favourite saying and now the catch phrase or slogan for the Foundation. Please take the time to check out the blog. A full site is coming soon, so I’ll keep you updated. Please click the image below to start browsing, and remember sales from my entire gallery go towards the foundation! Thanks, / Craig

For those following my fundraising activities to support a friend and collegue struck down but a massive stroke, an exciting time. Steve has come home, and spent his first night back in familiar surroundings. / Find out more here In the meantime to encourage more purchases all works have been reduced in their markup, and a few more initiatives are being started to encourage more sales for steve! Also hopefully more photos will be coming as well! I’ve even been commissioned to do some private work, the proceeds going towards the foundation! :) Thanks everyone! Craig

My good mate and work colleague and fellow redbubble ártíst JD, Jon or Dawesy (he goes by many names)” as agreed to join the cause and help raise money for the Steven T. Hill Stroke Foundation . Fortunately for him, he’s just flown off to enjoy 8 weeks overseas, so I’ve stepped in to help promote our join effort in raising money for a great cause. So spread the word! If you haven’t already read about what we are doing and why then please read Life is like a monkey Once you familiar with the cause, and our motivation behind spreading the word to building support check out his cool art portfolio he work offers you a some great images from Africa, Australian Outback and some more urban scenes he’s been shooting of late. So please do yourself a favour and check it out, especially while the 15% off sale is on for Framed and Canvas Prints. In other news we’ve made some more sales towards the foundation, so things are starting to pick up now the RB sale is on, so don’t delay. Thanks, / Craig

Just before I had to take off for three weeks for my job. I had contacted the Arbor Day Foundation to see if they might be interested in the poem I wrote about trees. After all they are all about trees, so figured why not. / I had to wait for their historian to approve it, and hadn’t heard from my contact in a couple of weeks. / Well tonight I thought, what the heck, let me check out the link she had sent me of where it would be IF they used it. / So I get a unexpected surprise, I find the link to my poem the Key is now on their website :):) / This has definitely made my night, and wanted to share with you guys. / Let me ketchup on some rest and I will be getting to all the wonderful works I have been missing while gone. / I never would have thought of anything that I have written to actually be published. hmm…maybe something to look into for the future? / Here is the Key on the bubble :) / Thanks guys for All of your support, it truly means a lot to me!

Well Wednesday this week has been renamed Salesday, with a great showing of support for the Steven T. Hill Stroke Foundation with over 20 pieces being bought today. I know for a fact one of the generous buyers was D. Dhany from our Sydney office as he was excited about his purchase. It also seems like the 15% off sale has also encouraged buyers to come out, as two Canvas prints have sold, whoo hoo. (Craig does his happy sales dance twice!!). For those of your who haven’t been following please read the Life is like a monkey journal article so you know why I’m so excited. Also a reminder that Dawesy who works with me has also donated his profits so please check out his art work here Also if you have checked it out, I’ve progressively uploading some limited edition, works what will only be available while the fundraiser is on. I’m doing my best to keep new items coming in on a regular basis! If anyone is interest in what’s been selling so far during the fundraising campaign, then take a look below. It’s a bit of a mixture of everything, which is great news for Steven and his family. So thank you all again for your support, and please feel free to facebook, journal, blog or even tweet about this to spread the news! With todays Sales, the total is up above $100 for the foundation and it all began with $1.75 from a single card!

Next week will see the opening of Mirrors, an art exhibition that’s about more than just pretty pictures on a gallery wall… / Supporting Melbourne based charity The Butterfly Foundation it seeks to raise funds & awareness surrounding the complex issues of Eating Disorders & Body Image. In a broader sense, it’s also very much about Expression though art & how powerful a platform art can be… whether that be through personal expression or in creating art that conveys a message or inspires others. Please visit the blog to read more about the aims Mirrors seeks to reflect. Many of you will know i’ve been heavily involved in putting together this exhibition, alongside founding Director, Rhiannon Bulley. / A large part of that has been selecting artists whose work somehow spoke to the issues we were dealing with… In the most part, artists who convey strong, positive images of beauty, inside & out. The support of artists here on Red Bubble has been phenomenal, with works coming from right around the globe… i am so grateful & i know i speak for all involved in Mirrors. Gracing the walls of the Mori Gallery will be: Karin Taylor / Karin has so generously donated the framed original of her inspirational painting, Hidden Treasure. / Cynthia Lund Torroll / A print of Cia’s latest beautiful work, And The Day Came is in the air on it’s way to Sydney as we speak! / Bec Winnel / Bec has so kindly sent us one of her sublime feminine portraits, a framed original yet to be revealed! Below is her latest stunner on RB, Silk Cocoon / Caitlin Shearer / Caitlin has created a stunning new painting especially for Mirrors, you’ll have to wait to see that one, in the meantime, Immaculate , is just that! / “Steph Granshaw”: http://www.redbubble.com/people/stephg / Stephs gorgeous drawing Baby Blue landed in my hands all the way from Thailand just yesterday & is being beautifullly framed as we speak! / Mimi Yoon / Who is rushing a print of her gorgeous work, wear me wear you all the way from the U.S to Sydney, right as we speak! / AWarr / AWarr’s Beautiful Anonymous series caught my attention the moment i saw it, seemingly speaking right to the heart of one aspect of what Mirrors is all about, a new BA piece has been created especially for Mirrors, BA- Weightless is a hint at it’s direction. / Remus Grecu / Remus created 3 paintings for an award-winning Anti Anorexia campaign in Europe & has very kindly allowed us to display prints of the series as well as the video you can view here / A special mention to the lovely Pip Gerard whose journal alerted me to Remus’ work. So this is a MASSIVE thankyou to all of the amazing artists here who have so generously supported this project, it means such a great deal to me. There are also a number of other artists from right around Australia donating work, as well as submissions from the public & a number of pieces from in-hospital Art Therapy programs. For those of you in the Sydney region Mirrors opens this Wednesday, 14th October 6-8PM at: / Mori Gallery / 168 Day St / Darling Harbour / If you can’t make it to the opening night, don’t worry there is plenty of time, with the exhibtion running from the 15th-26th October. The issues Mirrors looks at affect all of our lives one way or another… whether it be as directly as in personal experience or that of friends or family… or from a distance in a more general sense. / We’d love you to invite friends & family & it’s easily done here I also just need to add one more little thankyou to Karin for kindly posting about Mirrors last week… Between co-ordinating the exhibition & finishing my own painting for it, my intention to post this much earlier was a little way-laid! / There were also a small number of you whom i know really would have loved to contribute but for one reason or another were unable to. I appreciate the in principle support many of you have expressed to me privately just as much :) Hope to see some of you at Mori on Wednesday!!! Xxx Sarah Opening Night / Photo Gallery

Thankyou so much to Journal Junkies for featuring Mirrors: A Charity Exhibition… I wouldn’t normally journal a featured journal but as this is a charity event, & one i believe is very important… Please take the time to have a look & if you’re in Sydney we’d love to see you there at the opening Wednesday… / All the details here Thankyou!!! / Xxx
“Beauty is not just an image, it’s a feeling” *Wedne…
“Beauty is not just an image, it’s a feeling” Wednesday night saw the opening of the Mirrors Art Exhibtion, a charity event to benefit The Butterfly foundation, raising funds & awareness surrounding the complex issues of Eating Disorders & Body Image through Art. / The Gold framed mirror that nearly wasn’t… I found this frame in a council clean-up… & a friend had a 3m wall mounted Mirror he was desperate to get rid of… perfect for the event! Until the glass cutter wouldn’t go through as it was hardened glass! So i purchased a new piece, it was delivered with glue still wet just in time! / / You can read the full text written on the Mirror here As many of you will already know, alongside the events founder, Rhiannon Bulley, i’ve been involved in the organisation of the exhibition this year & was blessed with the support of several artists right here on the Bubble. / They included: Karin Taylor Cynthia Lund Torroll Bec Winnel Caitlin Shearer Steph Granshaw Mimi Yoon AWarr Remus Grecu Despite being supported by cool fashion & art mag Yen, no-one seemed to be too concerned with being “fashionably late”, in fact there were people sticky beaking from 5PM onwards… the show wasn’t billed to open until 6! It was a diverse crowd that flowed through the doors… From trendy young things to Mums with toddlers, Sharply dressed men who knew more than a thing or two about art to teenage boys who to my great surprise were incredibly interested in both the art & the issues. The several “creative spaces”, aimed at encouraging personal expression were warmly embraced… / / The Drawing Table / / Communal Canvasses… / / In progess… / / Finished!... Until the next person picks up the paintbrush! I started off the night managing the payment desk until my Dad kindly relieved me when a flood of people i knew arrived… I never made it back to the table… everytime i turned around there was another artist or friend, an opportunity to elaborate on an artwork & the creative force behind it, or a new face to meet… i would say the crowd more than tripled last years attendance, where i was merely someone who submitted a painting, & as part of the team this year, I couldn’t have been happier with the turn out… / / Serious Art Critics? / / Sisters / / Sisters 2: The little one & the adopted one Aside from the number & mix of people there, what made the night a success was the feeling amongst the crowd… And it wasn’t just the champagne & cupcakes… nor solely the wonderful art on the walls… people were genuinely interested in seeing such heavy issues cast in a different light… Books by artist Cindy Wider & Author whom herself beat Anorexia, Melinda Hutchings were donated to be raffled… / we had to enlist my Dad to get the attention of the chattering crowd… / / ...Although the serious concentration of the pair at the creative writing table in the foreground was unbreakable!... / / ...Rhiannon rewarded my Dad’s crowd control skills by drawing out his winning ticket! Whilst the seriouness of a deadly illness such as Anorexia can’t, & shouldn’t, be diluted in any way… the pervading feeling was one of hope… that where maybe the conventional wisdom is failing so many… perhaps there is another way. / No better example of this was found in a friend of a friend… A mother whose Daughter’s Best Friend has been battling Anorexia & is currently being treated in hospital for the 3rd time in the last 9 months… she relayed the all too familiar heartache of a family who feel helpless, & a girl who feels she lost her Best Friend… Despite her obvious sadness & concern for this young girl, her face lit up as she excitedly explained that this young girl was herself a talented artist… her work featured in Art Express, despite her illness preventing her from completing her HSC… and just maybe something in Mirrors, or the concept of the event itself, just might reach her. The hope was that she might be well enough to visit on day release… But where there is a will there is a way… if she can’t come to Mirrors then i may take Mirrors to her… whilst i can’t very well carry paintings in to the hospital, i can take photos… & hopefully a little of the feeling it’s all inspired. This dresser was the centrepiece of a shoot by photographer Louise Whelan / / _An old friend who worked for my Dad when i was a kid, Lou & i caught up a few months ago… / / ...The dresser & the concept for her shoot were already in motion before i even mentioned The Mirrors Exhibtion… / / ...It was naturally perfect for the exhibition… sweet synchronicity once again! Next week, once Mirrors begins to wind down i will be posting a complete photo gallery of as many works as possible, including the work of all my wonderful Bubblers, & a bit of a wrap on sales, funds raised & a few other little surprises! / The one sneak peek i can give you is at my own piece for the exhibition, What If I’m A Mermeaid… and in an unexpected twist, last week we discovered that Nature Colours Beauty my painting from last year, whilst paid for in full, was never picked up… fortunately it was quickly sold once again! Although i have already expressed my gratitude, both publicly & privately, to all of the Red Bubble artists involved i cannot rave about the success of the night without mentioning once more just how grateful i am… when i began seeking artists for this project i must admit there was some nervous hesitation, i am not one to ask for help or favours generally… But my belief in the Mirrors concept & cause overrode that & i’m so thankful it did… Not only for the benefit of the exhibition but it began what have turned into some very special friendships… there’s the power of art for you right there. / Yet i’m still amazed at the willingness & support i & the exhibition have received, especially since posting this journal in the lead up to the event… & in hindsight it would seem that a great number of you would have loved to be involved… & we’d have loved to have you… so although this years exhibition is still hanging on the walls, whilst it’s fresh in mind, if you’re interested in being involved in Mirrors in some way in the future, please leave me a comment here or drop me a bmail & i’ll compile a little list for reference when we begin planning for next year. Thankyou all for your love, support & encouragement, / Xxx Sarah / The Lead up / Photo Gallery

Just found out I’m the 9th best selling artist for October! Wow what a blast, and what’s even better is its all raised dollars for the Steven T. Hill Foundation whose new website can be found here Please think of him and his family in your thoughts and prays right now as just today (in the US) he had his latest operation. In good news, I’ve extended the fundraiser back to January and until next January to maximise the amount that can be donated to the Foundation. Thanks for all the messages of support, and those that bought cards, prints and calendars. Speaking of calendars I’ve started working on some 2010 Calendars with more hopefully on the way. Timeless / Selected Works / Please feel free to spread the word about the fundraise on RB, facebook, or blogs every little bit helps.
