“I love to observe my flowers at different times of day. In a warm summer evening, the sunset light bathed my pretty Hibiscus flower in sheer glory. Her petals took a heavenly presence for a brief moment, offering me this regal view.” / / / / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. I never lure my animated subjects to come close to me: spontaneity is the key. / / This is an original uncropped image. / / /

Castle Staufen, located on a rise above the town of the same name, was constructed during the early 12th century. The first (still existing) written mention of the castle can be dated in the year 1248. During the course of several feuds with the nearby city of Freiburg did the Lords of Staufen fall on hard times and finally came under the control of Freiburg, being required not to act against Freiburg’s interests as well as aid that city and always provide shelter for their troops. During the 30-Year-War the castle was razed by Swedish troops, only the outer walls survived the fires. The castle hill now serves as a vineyard for several vintners based in Staufen and some outlying farmsteads. ++ Location: Staufen im Breisgau (Germany)
My current passion is an alternative photographic process called Polaroid transfers. Each transfer is hand-made by the photographer using specific materials and equipment to achieve a desired effect. A transparency is projected on to professional Polaroid print film and as development begins, the print and chemicals are prematurely separated. The image is transferred on to dampened watercolor paper for a unique image which has a dated, artistic photo-painting appearance. Exposure, pressure, time, paper and other variables make each print an original mono-print.

From my show at Breakfast and Beer, Daylesford as part of BIFB 09 – the blurb reads something like this: / Taking an intimate and provocative view of what we eat. In particular, examining the ingredients involved in the favourite dish of one of Daylesford’s best chefs, Benjamin O’Brien. Presenting both the beauty of the basic ingredients as well as questioning whether we really want to know where our food comes from, (no matter how delicious it is). This exhibition conveys the dedication and passion that a chef brings to a dish and therefore, the artistry behind a simple meal. These images are presented as artworks rather than being of a documentary nature.
