  • Peter Van Straten is one of South Africas most talented and collectable artists. Peter is mentioned in the collectors guide to South African Art. His work is avidly collected by both local and International buyers. Peter creates mystic, surreal paintings of exquisite timeless beauty. His preferred medium is oils. The transcendental luminosity of Peters work is fully captured in these atmospheric images. View more of Peters and other artists work at defineart.co.uk

  • Simple and effective image to show the vulnerability of the environment. We need to care and respect the environment or it will fade. This image could be a reminder for the world’s individuals to take an active role in considering the environmental impact of their actions. There is hope though, for there is coloured life in the branch. (This image was created simply by creating a black/white mask over the original photo in PS3)

  • During one of my many attempts to springclean, I came across this old box of corals and fossils which I collected years ago! /

  • Sometimes you don’t know what you’re missing until you reach out to touch it. / Sometimes you can’t see how beautiful something is until it steps back into the light. / And sometimes you miss a love you almost didn’t lose. / But when you need beauty, dream…...... . • A combination of 2 of my tee designs.

  • The last peek of the setting sun produced vivid pinks and oranges in the sky. A standard polariser would have destroyed the reds, but a combined polariser and warming filter was able to preserve them. The addition of a reverse ND stop grad filter evened out the exposure in the sky, while careful use of HDR returned the detail in the reflections to give the appearance of it being on fire. / Kilve Beach, in north Somerset, is an inspirational place for geologists and fossil hunters alike, it also makes for otherwordly photos and spectacular sunsets. Camera: Canon 40D / Lens: Canon 17-40mm f/4 / Filters: Singh-Ray warming CPL and reverse ND grad / Edited using Photomatix Pro and Photoshop Elements 5

  • The true originator of the skeleton suit. My entry for the public domain challenge over in the t-shirt revolution group. Enjoy :) Sources:

  • This painting is a mixed media work that was “rescued”. I had started the original oil painting several years earlier but it had been set aside and forgotten about. Once I pulled it out again, I had no idea what my original vision for the piece was. After looking at it for awhile, I finished it off with the intricate ink work that surrounds the seashell. I also turned the shell into a stone fossil, which represents what happened to the idea I originally had for this painting – it turned to stone! But I think the end result was worth it.

  • My side gig as an archaeologist is often tedious work. Sometimes though, it is truly rewarding. Like today, my team was on a dig and we came across this fossilized ‘cassette tape’ from the ‘eighties era’. After some fine brushwork by my counterpart Hans and carbon dating in the lab we dated it to the ‘New Wave Era’ and as best as we can decipher it is from a person or group named Jane Siberry. / Nearby we unearthed a pair of ‘ankle warmers’ and a ‘mesh-back hat’ but soon realized they were frauds made in 2003.

  • I added a little edging and stuff to it. It made it stand out a bit more.
