the arizona desert can be a harsh place to drive, especially 50 years ago…radiators would overheat, tires would swell and go flat and the lack of air conditioning would test the endurance of the most hardy…then, after almost 1800 miles, there were the mountains…route 66 reached the mountains in western arizona…here the going got even worse…switch backs up and over and down would put a worthy vehicle to the test…there at the base was cool springs, the last oasis before heading up and over…here you could get fresh water, a cool drink and have the car looked over before the grueling climb toward california…pictured here was the alternative…for those unable to make it, their only hope was to be towed back to the start and get patched up for another try…
I’m often asked asked how much my paintings cost or how much to charge for commissioned portraits. It always leaves me cold. My original oil paintings are priceless and irreplaceable to me. I guess, like most artworks, they are worth whatever someone is prepared to pay. Be it 1 pound or 3 million pounds. Originally I was going to paint a portrait using copper coins at different stages of oxidization. The shiny new ones for highlights and the older darker ones for the shadows. I still might. This one cost £45. OK it didn’t really but there are 4500 (digital) 1p coins in it.. Digital Collage, 2008 A detailed view…
My dad owns this, (it was his grandfather’s), so I decided to use it as a new subject matter – a new challenge! Dating from the 50’s the car has never been “restored” – it just never needed to be! Canon EOS 450D: 1/160sec: f/7.1: 55mm © Debbie Black 2008

I took the shot of this lovely little Squirrel when I was walking around Forty Hall Estate in Enfield. He looked just like a Meerkat up on his hind legs. I have just been featured in; The Urban Wildlife Group and The Nikon DSLR Users Group I went for a walk today over to the Forty Hall Estate in Enfield for a couple of hours and this beautiful male Mandarin Duck was gliding gracefully across the lake with his female in tow. I was so happy the way this one turned out. The weather was a little overcast but that gave a fantastic balanced light making the colour of this lovely duck stand out really well. I hope you like the shot and thank you so much for viewing my work, please come again soon. These are the woods on the edge of the Forty Hall estate in Enfield which have many interesting paths to venture onto and to get lost and seem to go on for miles. I do like the colour version of the shot but this black & white one works better for me. I changed it into a B&W photo in Photoshop Elements 7 / I hope you like it and thank you so much for viewing my work, please call back again soon. pencil on paper (Stonehenge) / drawing Hmm… / let’s see, sometimes I’m SO Obvious. / I was 47 when I drew this.
detail of my pencil on paper drawing Forty Seventh Fall (Just cropped it a bit tighter for those who Want Things More Intense.) (grin) AND, for those brave enough, I have a deconstructed view of her for your chest. Go to my T-shirts / to find this: /
Let’s get down to some essence here… from my pencil drawing Forty Seventh Fall (if you select a darker colored shirt, more of the hidden eye emerges) Here’s how it looks on a lighter colored shirt:
As is becoming evident I’m sure, I like to play! Here is a rendition of my drawing Forty Seventh Fall / adding a touch of color to her eyes and flesh, then floating about some crimson leaves. / AND, you’ll find this / as a design in my T-shirt section: /

I felt pent up yesterday, and I needed to do something about it, so I looked no further than the face that graces my stairwell - / Forty Seventh Fall upon which I applied it to a very loose oil pastel background – creating this RedBubble exclusive experimental image.
I needed more, so I went long. Ha! Did I really just make a football analogy?! Same face – Forty Seventh Fall / this time overlaying her onto a scribbly wet watercolorey smoosh I made. / (yes, those are the technical terms) (Try viewing LARGE please)

Taken within the grounds of the Forty Hall Estate which is in Enfield, England. These daisies flowers looked great against the lovely blue sky. This is Lon, Ball and Porge who were three of the original squirrel members of the famous group The Animals. Eric Burden thought they were too hairy on stage so he sacked them and they then joined a small group called the The Beatles along with the forth member of the band called Bingo. Although their names suited the band they sadly left shortly after because they didn’t think they would do any good in the world of pop music. So now 40 years on (and don’t they look great for their age) they are back and their group is now called; The Hairy Fur Balls Bingo decided to work in the world of TV as a narrator for Thomas The Tank Engine series and did quite well from it. I found the three of them rehearsing a little number called Nutbush City Limits by Ike & Tina Turner within the grounds of the Forty Hall Estate which is in Enfield, England. I was just having some ‘ME’ time again and playing around in Photoshop Elements 7 So, there I was the other day having a walk up at the Forty Hall Estate which is in Enfield, England and I came face to face with a budding squirrel paparazzi photographer. I did laugh because he looked as though he was straight out of the Nikon College for paparazzi beginners. He took a few quick shots of me before realising I was nobody special and of no particular importance before rushing off to shoot a couple who looked a little like Brad Squid and Angelina Pony. Well his loss eh? LOL I hope you like the photo and thank you so much for viewing my work, please call back again soon. My song…. The Show (lenka) / This is where I began with my paintings .. 8 years ago, this is how they used to look … with a little enhancement in photoshop to add some little extras for fun. I hope you like it. To show where I’ve come from, just doing ‘dots’ and ‘strokes’ and ‘criss-crosses’ for eyes, to the eyes I’m doing today. My story – well…one day, a lady purchased a painting from me called Seashore Sally but she only had ‘dots’ for eyes and no other features, no nose, no lips (I didn’t know how to paint or draw them). The lady got in touch with her sister, a mutual friend, and asked through her, if i would try to add real eyes and a face. I was very anxious and nervous about doing a face over the top, as the lady had paid for the painting, but i agreed to try… this is when i began to progress and learn to draw eyes, noses and lips…and i’m still working hard on getting that right and improving .. i still struggle with lips and noses and eyes, but each time I am rewarded as I learn something new and keep on developing my style / i generally progressed from this, and prior to that, i drew some still lifes, such as a ceiling fan, a cluster of frangipanis and a few portraits of say John Lennon, and some ethnic families from National Geographic, so i began practicing and honing my skills using real subjects, prior to developing a style of my own, it was important to know i could draw first, and really draw accurately. from that to this /
