A jewel in the crown of Rajasthans many forts. Bundi Palace. Parts of Rajasthan can be so dry and I wanted to reflect this in the colour. Where the landscape and the palace share the same earthly tones.
Photo of Fort Queenscliff with the Black Lighthouse which is inside the fort one of two lighthouses at Queenscliff.
Original Photo by Michelle Siranovic, Post Production by Byron. The original colour image was washed out due to the camera pointing almost directly at the sun. The right hand side of the Fort was burnt out and had almost no texture or detail. The sky was a flat, lifeless, insipid pale blue with a huge white burn-out caused by the sun. There was a very distracting flag pole on the top of the Fort and some people on the top-left. Overall a very poor image that needed a lot of work. PROCESS: / -Converted to B&W, / -Hand-Select and remove sky, / -Copied remaining layer and converted to negative, / -Balanced original and negative layers to create a “Solarized” effect and to bring out detail in burnt out areas. / -Merged layers. / -Create new layer (clouds) / -Composite clouds into background. (Merge Layers.) / -Adjusted Levels. / -Burn in rocks around the base of the Fort. / -Crop.

Bad Nauheim is a town in the Wetteraukreis district of Hesse state of Germany. As of 2004, Bad Nauheim has a population of 30,365. The town is located approximately 35 kilometers (22 mi) north of Frankfurt am Main, on the east edge of the Taunus mountain range. It is a world-famous resort, noted for its salt springs, which are used to treat heart and nerve diseases. In the old town center of Bad Nauheim is the tithe barn at the gate to the castle: The barn was used by Elvis Presley as the motif of a record cover. Elvis Presley lived in Bad Nauheim during his time with the US Army in Friedberg. Other famous people whom have stayed in the town include Franklin Delano Roosevelt (As a boy, FDR had been taken for several extended visits to Bad Nauheim where his father underwent the water cure for his heart condition) and the Saudi Arabian football team during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. In addition, during World War II Hitler had a command complex in nearby Langenhain-Ziegenberg called Adlerhorst, “the Eagle’s Nest” (not to be confused with Kehlsteinhaus of Obersalzberg, which was never referred to as “the Eagle’s Nest” by the Nazis).

Fort Amherst is located at the entrance of St. John’s Harbor opposite Signal Hill across the Narrows’. The Fort was built in the 1770’s to defend the entrance of the Narrows’. Gun placements were used at The Fort during WWII to protect the harbor from German U-boats. In 1813 a lighthouse was built at Fort Amherst and was to be the first permanent lighthouse established in Newfoundland. It operated until 1835 but was then replaced by a new structure in 1852, which was demolished in the early 1950’s to make way for the new lighthouse which is seen today. / More in this series / / / / / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography
I am coming close to finishing up the first draft of a novel titled “Forts” that I’ve been writing for the better part of the year, and because of that I decided to sketch up a little something with the characters.
Union Colonel Johnson looks down to the Valley below, as his troops secure the perimeter for the ensuing night. The last days’ battles resulted in significant casualties on both sides. Col. Johnson settles down at his field desk to write the following report: / / “Headquarters Couch’s Division,”Williamsburg, Va., May 8, 1862. “Sir, I have the honor to report that at 1 o’clock P.M., of May 5, the head of my Division, consisting of Peck’s Brigade only, arrived on the ground in rear of the center of our line of battle, and was by direction of General Keyes, posted by me supporting him, he being fiercely engaged. Peck soon moved forward, and for an hour and a half was opposed by nearly the whole of the enemy’s disposable force in front, covered the assaults of their infantry and cavalry, / but the determined courage of this Fort Magruder, distant 400 to 600 yards, with its plunging fire of shells and grape gallant officer and the steadiness of his brigade foiled all attempts to drive him from the ground. “The left of the 55th New York was twice forced back, but the 93rd Pennsylvania and the 72nd New York Volunteers, coming up furiously, recovered the space lost. *There was very little faltering, and I beg to say to the General / commanding that I want no higher earthly honor than to be the Commander of the First Division of this Corp. *The list of casualties were: Peck’s Brigade, killed, 18; wounded, 81; missing, 26. Deven’s Brigade, 1 killed and 2 wounded. Artillery detachment, 1 wounded. Total loss, 19 killed, / 84 wounded and 26 missing. Image created via layering 3 images total. My art with 1000+ views

hmmm….don’t know why this was hidden… A poem by Matt Penfold A lonely chair sits in a fort / Beside a lonely wall / It served a Sergeant Major once / Before he had a fall This man you see was just the kind / Who worked his men like slaves / And many of these men he broke / And sent to early graves The evil man it seems was prone / To lean back on his chair / And place his feet upon the desk / Then pluck his nasal hair One day this habit caught him out / He slipped and hit his head / The doctor who attended then / Pronounced him nicely dead His charges who were still alive / All cheered and punched the air / And had a special medal struck / In honour of the chair ;-)

Junonia coenia is the Common Buckeye butterfly. It is found in all parts of the United States except the northwest, and is especially common in the South, the California coast, and throughout Central America and Colombia. Its habitat is open areas with low vegetation and some bare ground. The bold pattern of eyespots and white bars on the upper wing surface is distinctive in much of its range, though compare related species in the same genus. (These are Mangrove Buckeye, Junonia evarete and Tropical Buckeye, Junonia genoveva, formerly considered one species, the Smoky Buckeye, Junonia evarete.) The eyespots likely serve to startle or distract predators, especially young birds. The species has many flights throughout the year, with mostly northward migrations for the summer. Much of the northern United States is only colonized in the fall from southern populations. Some of the later broods move southwards in the fall. Common buckeyes exhibit seasonal polyphenism, the summer version of the butterfly has light yellowish ventral wings and is called “linea”. The Fall morph has pink ventral wings, and is called the “rosa” morph. Adults feed on nectar and also take fluids from mud and damp sand. Males perch on bare ground or low plants, occasionally patrolling in search of females, but they are not territorial. The female lays eggs singly on buds or the upper side of leaves. The caterpillars are solitary and feed on the foliage, flowers, and fruits of the host plant. A variety of (typically) herbaceous plants are used, including especially plants in the snapdragon family (Scrophulariaceae). These include snapdragon (Antirrhinum), toadflax (Linaria), and Gerardia. Caterpillars also feed on plants of the plantain family, such as Plantago; and the Acanthus family including ruellia (Ruellia nodiflora). Larvae feed singly. Adults and some larvae overwinter in southern areas. The pupa may not have a resting phase (diapause), as in many other butterflies. This species and its relatives were placed formerly in the genus Precis. The Common Buckeye was featured on the 2006 United States Postal Service 24-cent postage stamp.D. J. Wilcox Preserve, Ft. Olympus E-3. Zuiko 12-60mm ED. Sullivan’s Island, SC. 2009 The fort was unnamed and not yet complete when Admiral Sir Peter Parker and nine British warships attacked it on June 28, 1776, near the beginning of the American Revolutionary War.The soft palmetto logs did not crack under bombardment but rather absorbed the shot; there were even reports of cannon balls actually bouncing off of the walls of the structure. Charleston was saved from capture, and the fort was named for the commander in the battle, William Moultrie. deep shadow style inspired by David, a.k.a Ragman
