  • This may only be a shaky handheld job on my little pocket camera (fujifilm finepix a500) but is one of the three pics I’m proudest of ...ever…. and it still makes my heart lurch every time I see it! It had been six and a half hour walk in and up from sea level to that point and comprised more rock scrambling than I had ever envisaged and a heartstoppingly precarious walk along the ridge. I had carried a small tripod every step of the way but the others waiting wanted to press on with even harder descent and 4 hour return trip so I had no chance to set up…..... / :)) The view looks back over Loch Hourn into the highlands from the top of Ladhar Bheinn, or ‘hoof hill’ ‘one of the finest mountains in Scotland with narrow rocky ridges and spectacular corries’ (Scottish Mountaineering Club Guide). It is 1020m but we had scrambled up and down on the jagged ridge repeatedly so had climbed considerably more. The last snows of the winter look reassuringly solid in this pic but in fact stood proud of the mountain leaving the sheer drop visible beneath. We had sailed into knoydart the most remote penisula on the scottish mainland from Mallaig into the hamlet of Inververie which is inaccessible by road, only by sea or a demanding walk of many miles. It is graced with the fantastic Old Forge pub with superb meals and imprompu nightly ceilidhs which walkers and sailors really enjoy! Deer roamed the gardens and early next morning I got the precious shot of morning gems Looking back in an amazing place For full details see heartbeat ridge Ladhar Bheinn, in the remote scottish knoydart peninsula For an idea of scale see also hey wait for me / See all pics of this stunning area by clicking this link: knoydart

  • .... to set up my tripod …. no way?...but rb expects…. teehee! ;)) Just adding this one for the human scale… Looking ahead at the even narrower ridge ahead where the group are hugging the contour of the hill as there is such steep 1000m drop to the right For full details see heartbeat ridge See also path just trodden

  • We enjoyed the mellow dusk settle on this perfect anchorage with pints of beer in hand, outside the renowned Forge inn, (officially Britains remotest mainland pub). The tiny scottish hamlet of Inverie is inaccessible by road, only by sea or a demanding walk of many miles. We had crossed to the unspoilt area of the knoydart peninsula by ferry from Mallaig for some amazing walking (see the series of 3 pics on heartbeat ridge . The sights on arrival were just captivating with wildflowers galore, deer roaming gardens, peacocks roosting (see bird in a tree and I also got the precious shot of morning gems. • Sparks of hot molten steel are ejected as Weston-super-Mare’s blacksmith Nathan Bennett re-forms a freshly heated strip of iron. Nathan was happy for me to stand at a safe distance while I worked hard to click in synchrony with his hammer strikes. In the film era this would have been a much more expensive exercise, for sure! I’ve had lots of great feedback from this photo (in other places as well as on RedBubble) and I was pleased to give Nathan a RedBubble-laminated print as a thank-you gift. / . / A HUGE Thank You to the People At Work Group for featuring this photo in Sept/Oct 2009! / . /

  • On the grounds of the Oka monastery, in Oka Quebec, is a blacksmith shop. On Saturday December 6th/08 while attending a Christmas craft fair, held in one of the barns, the public was invited to witness the blacksmith at work. / These artisans still use the tools of their forefathers. Today they produce various iron decorative objects such as candelabras and coffee tables in their shop in addition to the traditional work associated with rural life such as gates, agricultural tools, and horsehoes. It was a fascinating experience watching this young man demonstrate the skills needed for this ancient trade. Photoshop Elements used: Unsharp Mask

  • When my children were young we used to visit Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on our way to the Great Smoky Mountains. Our last trip through I decided I would do some paintings of the less picturesque aspect of our trip. . . painting images of the tourist trap nestled at the base of those beautiful mountains. Of course the kids love the painting because it sparks deep fond memories of our family trips together. After nearly two years of on and off painting on Beach House, it’s ready to debut. BEACH HOUSE GRILL / original ptg. 33” x 23” / acrylic on canvas

  • Many thanks to Ken Boxsell who, once again, graciously allowed me to play with his gorgeous Frog. I used a Photoshop Artistic Filter, Posterise Edges, to give a little more definition, and this is the result. I hope you like it. Thank you for looking – I would appreciate any constructive criticisms you might like to give me. Best seen at the large size.

  • Today is your day, your mountain is waiting, so get on your way. / ~~ Dr. Seuss Climb every Mountain until you find your dream!!! Photo taken along Route 252 in Valley Forge Park in historic Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

  • A little fun with a goofy shot of my youngest son Evan. Created using some Photoshop magic appying grids & masking, adding the bee to his nose & using an add-on filter program called Filter Forge to create the comic book finish. His silly antics are often my comic relief & inspiration – thank goodness for 12 year old hams. LOL.
