A peaceful place with hill, river, forest, birds, fish, flowers, fresh air, sunshine, fog, and cloud. Even when I recall it, I feel it was a dream in my life. The pitcuture was taken at Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Boreas Pass, Colorado…..one of my favorite places on the face of the Earth to shoot at….the fact that there is hardly anyone ever up here and the fields of Wildflowers go on forever really make this quite an extraordinary place. Located on the Continental Divide, it reaches an altitude of 11,481 feet high. The pass was formerly known as Breckenridge Pass in the 1860s, when it served as an early route for thousands of prospectors during the Colorado Gold Rush who crossed from South Park to look for gold in the valley of the Blue around Breckenridge. In 1866, it was widened to a wagon road that accommodated stagecoaches. In 1882, under the direction of Sidney Dillon of the Union Pacific Railroad , the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad (by then controlled by the Union Pacific) begun laying narrow gauge tracks up the pass, which Dillon renamed in honor of Boreas, the Ancient Greek god of the North Wind.

WILD AND FREE / / Young Mountain Gorilla playing at being king of the castle. There were about four young gorillas which were all trying to get him of the top of the mound – it was such fun to watch them play. To spend an hour with Mountain Gorillas is one of the best wildlife experiences you can ever hope for. They captivate you with their eyes and you become lost in the moment. Your time with them goes so fast you are left just wanting more… / / This large Silverback was only a few meters away from us! / / There my be hope yet for the mountain gorilla as a recent WWF report states, please have a look at it HERE / / (Virunga volcanoes – Rwanda) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

Deep in the dark, silent bamboo forest, the mood can be entirely spooky. The bamboo stalks lurk around you, blocking out nearly all light. When I see a new sprig of green leaves deep in the dark forest, the feeling is happy and almost a relief - a spot of light and color - the haunted feeling disappears, at least for a moment.
Colorado’s Highway 7 has to be one of the most scenic drives one can take in Autumn, and as illustrated here in HDR, Mt Meeker rises above the Fall foliage. / Thoughts welcomed / John

Your time with them goes so fast you are left just wanting more… / / / Unfortunately, Mountain Gorilla numbers are small, with only approximately 700 left in the wild. The primary threat comes from forest clearance and degradation, as the region’s growing human population struggles to eke out a living. I am hopeful ways can be found to control these problems before it is too late. / / (Virunga volcanoes – Rwanda) / /
A clearing storm, captured from Kalalau Lookout in Kokee State Forest, overlooking the Kaualau Valley on the Napali Coast of Kaui in Hawaii. I was attracted to this scene since the cliffs seem to be floating in midair. All content & images © Stephen Vecchiotti. You may not use any images in any way without written consent from artist.
