This is again, from a drive through the back roads of the Dandenong ranges in Victoria. I was just driving around and stopping to photograph things that caught me eye (I wound up lost too). This is a plot of land behind a farmhouse near Seville.
Seville, Vic, Australia. I saw this grove of Chestnut trees on the side of the road and jumped a barbed wire fence to shoot it. It was such a surreal morning with the mist rolling through the trees. Took about a dozen shots here and stole 7 chestnuts which I had with my dinner that night. It was only after uploading this that I decided that I’m not entirely happy with it. I have about 10 different versions of it shot at different angles some of which I think are a little better.
Elowah falls tumbles some 200+ feet to the floor of the Columbia River Gorge. Taken on a rainy misty day in January. I never seen that much water coming over the falls.
Another from the misty morning in the Dandenong Ranges in Olinda
Saturday morning, the weather very nice with sunshine and no winds at all. At this time of year this is very rare, and usually opens possibilities for mist. / I arrived at the forest, there was not another soul in sight. How I wonder why people are in such a hurry to go shopping or whatever, when they could have enjoyed a stroll here! 779 views on November 8th, 2009 Aperture priority programme / Spot metering / 1/100 sec. / f/8 / ISO 100 RAW capture, processed in Camera RAW and PS Elements. A montage of my photographs, the traditional Scottish Croft was photographed on the magical Isle of Ulva, Scotland and the woods were photographed on a misty morning in July on the Isle of Mull, Scotland.
A collaboration with Rosalie Dale (my mum!), Misty Morning was perfect for my Avalon series, I think it works perfectly for the beginning of the story… The sword in the stone – where it all began for the boy who would become King Arthur. Born at Tintagel to King Uther Pendragon and the lady Igraine but sent away to serve as a helper in another castle, the boy who would grow up to become King Arthur was raised unaware of his parents’ status. He was a natural leader, a good fighter, and was always scrupulously fair, yet modest and unassuming. One day, a mysterious magician named Merlin announced that in the woods lay a stone with a sword thrust deep into its center. He promised that whichever man could draw the sword from the stone would be crowned the next king of Britain. Men came from all over the land to try their luck with the sword in the stone. Everyone from the knights to the blacksmiths, from lords to peasant children, tried to extricate the sword. None could. Finally, young Arthur was persuaded to try. Feeling foolish, he approached the stone, shaking his head—for why should he be able to pull out the sword, when the strongest of men had failed? But to his surprise and amazement (and to everyone else’s, certainly), as he grasped the pommel of the sword, he pulled it smoothly from the stone. This young unknown boy was to be the next king! Merlin came forward and congratulated the stunned Arthur, and that is where the story of King Arthur all began—with a sword in a stone. This dreamy glade in Pisgah National Forest, Western North Carolina, gave me the feeling of being in two worlds at once – the “normal” world we live in and also a world filled with faeries, gnomes and is that a troll hiding in the forest?? I added the Orton effect with PhotoShop to give it an even more dream-like quality and enhanced the colors. This was taken in the early morning hours just after the sun rose. The mist around the trees was so beautiful yesterday morning, and everything felt so peaceful, I couldn’t resist a couple of textures and overlays to help create the feeling. Original photograph with grunge texture overlay, colour and levels adjustments. Featured in Red Bubble Home Page, April 2009
Misty haunting morning this morning, sitting in a pine plantation at Mt Burr in the Limestone Coast area of South Australia. Last hints of fog lifting as the sun rose towards a clear blue sky. Canon 400D 18-55 lens with ND4 filter. Three shot HDR converted in Photomatix and cropped to size. Damn it was cold!!!!!!!!!!

Out early this morning to watch the sun rise through the fog in a pine plantation at Mt Burr – Limestone Coast South Australia. Certainly worth the cold to see the beauty as the sun tried to force its way into the forest. Natures strength showing the small re-growth forcing its way up amidst the towering trees. Canon 400D 18 – 55 with ND4 filter. Processed in Photoshop CS3.
