More from the Lightscapes Set We were at a picnic when I needed the loo and being me I took my camera to just incase… and I’m glad I did as this was just around the corner!
This was a beautiful place to be – when the children were there is became magical – every door opened wasn’t a garden it was the secret garden and we had to look for lepricorns and fairies and smell every flower and describe every tree.

Mystical moods from the Norwegian tall pine forest. October 2007.
Inspired like a lot of my work, by the book The Secret Garden. I am facinated by / the notion of secret doors which may lead to magical experiences or new adventures.
First Artwork I have done for quite a while, hope you like it :-) “There is a Native American legend that says, ” If you have a secret wish, capture a butterfly and whisper your wish to it. Since butterflies cannot speak, your secret is ever safe in their keeping. Release the butterfly, and it will carry your wish to the Great Spirit, who alone knows the thoughts of butterflies. By setting the butterfly free, you are helping to restore the balance of nature, and your wish will surely be granted.” The butterfly is a powerful symbol for transformation. It leaves the safety of the cocoon in it’s new form. This is an excellent image for anyone contemplating, or in the midst of a major change. A butterfly is a strong symbol of metamorphosis, with distinct stages. The butterfly is a reminder to make changes when the opportunity arises. Change and transformation are inevitable for us all, but it does not have to be traumatic.Butterfly symbolism is also closely tied to the idea of spirits and souls. It has been used in many religions and cultures. Psyche is the Greek word for both soul and butterfly. The belief was that butterflies were human souls searching for a new reincarnation, which gave the creature uncanny and sometimes ominous connotations. This symbolism was also used in early Christianity as a symbol of the soul. Celts thought that women became pregnant by swallowing butterfly souls. These butterfly-souls flew about seeking a new mother.” info from http://kc.8m.com/bflysym.html

At this time of the year the Amanita muscaria (also known as fly agaric) grow in profusion in the pine needles of this forest in the Blue Mountains (NSW, Australia). I believe they have magic qualities if eaten (I can imagine!!) ... there must be some very happy little creatures around as a lot of the mushrooms have holes in them! This time last year, I shot Persistence in the same area. Featured in Retired and Happy Group in May 2009 Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM
pencil on paper (unknown kind) drawing – 20” wide x 30” high – ORIGINAL SOLD This piece has seen the world. It spent a number of years touring Australia in Damian Michael’s Visionary Art Exhibition – hanging next to H.R. Giger, Laurie Lipton, Alex Grey and many other “fantastic”/visionary artists. This was drawn during a difficult phase of my life – but one of ultimate growth. It’s been very interesting to hear the many interpretations this drawing has provoked in viewers. I had someone ask me once if this was a female crucifixion scene. (no!) I was trying to say A LOT at that time in my life but felt I was mute in the world. So I decided to draw it instead. There are a number of variations of this drawing available as T-shirts in my Clothing section: Signed and numbered limited-edition prints are available at my main web site cynthia’s store

This is an old image from 2007. / It’s a self portrait taken indoors with studio lighting and then I had a stock image of a forest I composed onto the background. It was done so long ago I don’t have the information on where I got the forest stock, so I can’t credit it. But it was a moderately used texture which doesn’t dominate the piece. The hair was saturated in PS. © Jessica Walker
