This is the main cascade of Scalebar Force near Settle in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, England. The falls are 2 miles from the market town of Settle and are hid away in a narrow gorge just at the side of the road. Its a very popular spot for photographers as someone had kindly left some arranged leaves on the foreground boulder! Nikon D80/Nikkor 18-105mm VR lens, ISO100, 2 sec exposure at f-22. Go upstream from Cotter Force, and immediatley above the falls is this stretch of water with the most special small waterfalls I have ever seen. I would love to tell you about the location of this work, but the truth is my RB friend Carolyn Staut sent me the photo I used for this painting. She responded quickly to my indecision of what to paint by emailing me half a dozen photos. How cool is that?

Not leaving well enough alone, I ventured into googling and found an amazing photograph (hven.swarthmore.edu) of a Wind Bubble and began searching more of the Stellar Winds ~ this all seemed to fit, so I sketched a female figure being blown by the wind and layered it atop the Wind Bubble, editing a little more with the Redfield fractilius plug-in to bring the force of the wind alive with evidence of its power, though unseen… “Thought is the Wind, knowledge the sail, and mankind the vessel. ” August Hare

One of the most beautifull waterfalls I have ever visited, this is Scaleber Force in Yorkshire , England. The green of the moss makes it so mystical even though it is still winter. 2 sec exposure @ f16 iso 100

F-22 Raptor during the demo at 2007 NAS Oceana airshow. This plane and it’s capabilities are nothing short of amazing. I wonder how hot that exhaust is? My art with 1000+ views

Sort of a bittersweet moment, apparently the West Coast Demo team will no longer perform at airshows with the F-15. To mark the “retirement” this F-15 was hosed down by two firetrucks as it returned from it’s last tactical flight demo. Nikon D300, Sigma 50-500mm.

The captive population of Siberian Tiger comprises several hundred. A majority of these tigers are found in China, with other populations in Europe and North America. The large, distinctive and powerful cats are popular zoo exhibits. The Siberian Tiger is bred within the Species Survival Plan (SSP), a project based on 83 wild caught tigers. According to most experts, this population is large enough to stay stable and genetically healthy. Today, approximately 160 Siberian Tigers participate in the SSP, which makes it the most extensively bred tiger subspecies within the programme. There are currently no more than around 255 tigers in the tiger SSP from three different subspecies. Developed in 1982, the Species Survival Plan for the Siberian Tiger is the longest running program for a tiger subspecies. It has been very fortunate and productive, and the breeding program for the Siberian Tiger has actually been used as a good example when new programs have been designed to save other animal species from extinction. The Siberian Tiger is not very difficult to breed in captivity, but the possibility of releasing animals bred in captivity into the wild is small. Conservation efforts that secure the wild population are therefore still of imperative. If a captive bred Siberian Tiger were to be released into the wild, it would lack the necessary hunting skills and starve to death. Captive bred tigers can also approach humans and villages, since they have learned to associate humans with feeding and lack the natural shyness of the wild tigers. In a worst-case scenario, the starving tigers could even become man-eaters. Since tigers must be taught how to hunt by their mothers when they are still cubs, a program that aimed to release captive bred Siberian Tigers into the wild would face great difficulties.
