  • A painting I made for my mom for Mother’s Day. Larger version can be seen here: http://www.annekehut.nl/anneke/flowervase.html

  • This is a watercolor painting I still have that I did in college. My Dad would ask if he could come along on one of my hikes and the rock climbing that it required compelled me to say no he could not. Anyway it it planted the seed for the idea in this painting.

  • this sunrise is very special to me. it wa 5:30 in the morning. i was on the phone with my mom, who i didn’t see since 2002. i woke up early to take pictures of sunries and i called her beacause i wanted to share this great moment with her. between US and Germany is 6 hours difference and very often i wake up early to call her… i miss you mom…

  • This was taking at the request of my mom who has this bowl of fake pears in it. She thought it would be a great still life on a card and promised to buy it! So I couldn’t resist making my mom happy and took the shot! I guess I take requests now =) LOL

  • Under the watchful eye of the larger of the siblings, momma hummer feeds the smaller with a very long tongue down the throat. Neither off the fledglings made a sound before, during or after feeding; either they are more mature than other little birds or more concerned about being seen and heard in the nest. The thing most amazing about this scene is mom standing on the edge of the nest and both fledglings fitting inside it while it is less than an inch in circumference! More incredible, they fledged seconds later and both flew well enough to get to different branches in the same tree.

  • This cute funny flower cartoon poster is especially for moms who might recognize this situation. Brighten up your kitchen wall and tease your pre-adolescent offspring at the same time. Or give as a gift to someone you know who is dealing with a preteen. This is part of the Best Buds series of gardening cartoons by Swisstoons. You’ll find lots more Best Buds Gardening cartoon products, including magnets, postcards, and shirts at my Zazzle gallery

  • In memoriam / As I mentioned in a previous post, my mother used to tend orchids, and I never noticed her work. Mother-daughter relationships can be complex – look at the number of books and articles written on the subject. Ours was no less or no more complex than millions of other relationships. With this in mind, I purchased two orchid plants yesterday to tend and nurture and to photograph, so that I could learn to see them. With mother’s day approaching, these particular flowers have been much on my mind. My mother died four years ago in May. I’m just beginning to understand our long and complex struggles – and love. Constructive comments welcomed. This is the second attempt – or rather the first attempt from last night, using two lights on stands. (Other orchid, but not original post.) I would like to know what you see and would rather see. Nikon D200 and a Nikkor 18-200mm at f/18 and 1/4 sec, -3ev, IS0 100, 200mm. Converted from RAW to jpeg using Capture NX 2, Manfrotto tripod, continuous dual lights on stands. / Choices
