This is an image of a wonderful old man who allowed me to stand on the footplate of his steam train while he was stoking up the fire and let me take a photograph of him, i was absolutely over the moon and really felt humble and priviledged as though i had stepped back in time, one things for sure it was HOT on there!

How many people have gazed longingly into the cab of a simmering steam engine, as the crew prepare her for the journey ahead quietly going round the engine touching her here and there, equipped with the obligatory oil can and cotton rag attending to the engine’s joints, pins, bolts, bearings, basically anything that moves, all of which are known by their correct and proper names. A squirt of oil here, dab of grease there, a pause . . . . maybe an extra bit there . . . now . . . everything O.K. and in order . . . . the driver heaves himself into the cab . . . . and we’re off ! . . . . a true mechanical romance !
