Hello Bubblers, Well Christmas over for another year and back to work today for a few hours. Some will have had a good christmas with family and friends, some a nice quiet christmas relaxing from the hustle and bustle of normal work life, and sadly for some a time to weep for loved ones lost at this time of year. (RIP Axel) or the feeling of being alone and no one to share with. Then we all at some point click and enter into Red Bubble and it’s wonderful community of warm caring friends all over the world and gently we are soothed in the knowledge that no matter what good or bad we can come here and wonder over the amazing talent in all aspects of creativity and know that if we want to talk or not be alone there is always someone to communicate with. Thank you to all the friends I have already made here and to the ones I’ve yet to cross paths with. I wish you all a better 2008 in your work and personal life. Finally, I would like to say I was fooled yet again, I opened my Red Bubble this morning and was excited to find I had sold 10 cards, I couldn’t believe my good fortune…..........until I suddenly remembered I had ordered them myself using my Red Bubble Gift Certificate that my sister gave me for christmas….............. am feeling rather sheepish, especially as it’s not the first time I have done that. / N.B. Note to myself….do not order own cards before going to bed (hehehhehe!!!) HA*PPY* NEW* *YE*AR TO* *AL*L *BU*BBL*ER*S

Life sort of throws up many little experiences that can both, make you shake your head but also make you laugh…......had one of those little experiences at work the other morning….....to put this in perspective…......I have 2 trolleys that get filled with ‘scrubs’ for our theatres….........was going about my business early in the morning, the boss comes up from downstairs and tells me that I have apparently lost one of the trolleys and that the laundry would like to know where it was. I told him that as far as I knew, I had one and had sent the other one back the previous day, he said that couldn’t be so as the laundry didn’t have it, rather awkward as this was a Friday and it was needed. I did some further checking, couldn’t locate it, went off and scrounged some stuff from another area and continued on my way….....then rang the boss back and asked if he could get the laundry to organise some more scrubs for me….......He rang back shortly after and said that the laundry had a trolley for me that was packed for Monday and would I like that one…...der….....has the penny dropped for you here….......only 2 trolleys…...i had one…they have one that’s packed for MONDAY but the one for Friday has disappeared….....funny thing is, it didn’t dawn on the boss until I pointed it out to him…......some days….....lol…...where do you get good help…...

Roll back to January this year and I spent the better part of a nice sunny day trying to set up three different e-mail accounts in Entourage (Outlook) on my Mac. I’d done this job many times over for different accounts and never had any trouble, but on this particular day it just wasn’t working. So after hundreds of google searches, heaps of walks down dead ends in forums and countless test emails to my poor suffering brother, I finally had three working accounts. Add another few hours to the session (hell, I’d gone that far, might as well extend the fun) and I had the most organised, filtered, rule following little e-mail app you could wish for. Even now I’m tearing up at how beautiful it was. Emphasize the word was. This morning I went to check my messages only to find nothing. I’m not actually sure how you find nothing, but I digress. Oh, there was a welcoming e-mail from the Microsoft Entourage team, so again, nothing. Somehow my preferences have disappeared into the ether. Now you would think if I had invested a day of my life setting this stuff up that I might have kept some record of the rather complicated settings. Maybe I got caught up in the euphoria of that day, maybe I’m just a dope. Either way, I didn’t. Now I’m a fastidious backer-upperer. One of my lecturers used to teach the mantra Save Often by sneaking up behind us in class and clicking on the X button to close our work regardless of where we were at. If you were in the habit of saving every few minutes you were fine, if you weren’t, you weren’t. I nicknamed him Cowboy X – part reference to the mysterious workings in a sadistic mind that could take pleasure in the pain of his unprepared students, part homage to the Sesame Street character. I carried that mantra through to my back ups and I do it habitually. But now I’ve learnt another lesson and once I’ve got my baby configured the way it was yesterday, I’m going to take screen grabs of all the account settings screens so I’ve got a record of how I got there. So am I going to sit here for ten hours today and figure it all out again? Nup – rainy day in Hobart, day off work, bookshops and coffee are awaiting. I’m having my first e-mail free day in quite awhile. I’ll let you know if I’m in rehab by tonight.

With April Fool’s Day just around the corner I thought I’d share a funny story ;) One day in March around the mid 80’s, I was sitting in the rehearsal room reading an English Muso mag while the keyboard player from our band was working on a new song. Now if you imagine a cross between Leon Russell and Liberace, you’ve got him, wonderfully talented and an equally eccentric character. While reading the mag I came across an ad for a new whizz bang computer thingy (remember this is the early to mid 80’s) which would put an end to the chore of writing sheet music and be a boon to composers. All you had to do was think of a tune while sitting in a bath of saline solution with this contraption strapped to your head and plugged into a computer….. and like magic, your new song would appear on a printout. Imagine that, just sitting in the bath, and thinking of a tune….every muso’s dream! It wasn’t available in Oz but you could telephone the UK to Order it for only 500 pounds. / So, loving a bit of mischief, I called out ,”Hey Gaz, have a look at this!” before Ieaving the studio. A few days later a red faced but laughing Gazza told me he actually telephoned the company in the UK to order the device only to be met with howls of laughter on the other end lol! I got him good;)
