last year on the 7th of July 2007 I was looking through a Japanese/English dictionary for a name i could use for the characters that i was designing in illustrator. one word i typed in was prince and up came a few translations including one that caught my eye “mikoto” i spoke to a japanese friend who explained to me that the word was no longer used in that context as it was actually an ancient word used for the son of an emperor. i loved the story and i adopted the word to encompass all of the designs that i do. it has been a year that has where waves of creativity have had to compete with personal needs and my primary profession of being a teacher. What hasn’t waned is the warm and generous support of all my friends and supporters (especially those form red-bubble) from who seem to love what has been created. So i though as the first anniversary of mikoto passed on the 7/7/7 i would put all of the T-shirt designs onto one file. (its a few days late) thanks everyone who has commented, Bmailed, purchased, etc scotty (｡◕‿‿◕｡)

The traditional classic chinese word “ai” (love) consist of the word “xing” (heart) at its core. “Ai Xing” in mandarin means “loving heart”. I have simply highlighted the core word “xing” in red to show the meaning of loving heart. “While some simplified characters were adopted from conventional abbreviated forms that have existed for a long time, the vast majority of the changes made by PRC were “unnatural” such as the removal of the symbol for heart (心) from the word love (愛) into the new character (爱).” (Wikipedia) This word is hand-written by me (using a wacom pen & tablet). This t-shirt design is currently only available from RB. KUMARJI .. WAS ON MY MIND WHEN I CREATED THIS.. / A VISIT TO INIDA.. I WOULD BE IN HEAVEN… HE WOULD SHOW ME ALL THE FINE PLACES TO DINE AS WELL AS THE SAFE…AMAZING STREET SHOPS.. / KUMARJI.. THIIS ONES FOR YOU!! / OUR MUSIC KUMARJI… MY FAV SONG FOR YOU apparently Kumarji was inspired too.. below is one of his wonderful chapters from his book… this chapter he called An old fashioned elevator and I love it! The Riviera Hotel, Dubai, May, 1987 The motorized elevator mesh doors began to screech and clang to close automatically, one after the other. First the one fixed to the floor level and then the one fixed to the elevator. This contraption did not seem as dangerous to me, compared to the ones I’ve seen where you need to grab the grip with both hands, put all your might into sliding the mesh doors to close and then you can wipe all that sweat off your foreheads in the heat of summer afternoons in this desert town as well as back home in India. But this was almost midnight, quite nippy and very pleasant as the sands in the desert tend to cool as we progress into the night. Unmindful of waking up the entire hotel, I’d decided to ignore the staircase. I was far too drunk and too happy to notice that there was someone else in the elevator as well until, I ‘heard’ the movement. This seemed unusual. But I remained, just the way I was. Facing the doors, instead of turning around to see if this was a familiar guest or someone I knew. “Do you have a spare cigarette” I heard a male voice say, rather than ask. I also noticed that he’d chosen to ignore adding ‘please’ at the end of his request. But his voice sounded familiarly commanding to me. Like coming from someone I knew from the past and someone who’s used to speaking with a characteristic authority. Without turning around, I pulled out my pack of Marlborough reds and my lighter. Just as I was about to turnaround to hand him his desire, I felt his hand on my left shoulder and I stiffened. I heard him laugh. “Sonoovabitch!” he said, his laugh turning into a roar. And I turned around. “You mothafuckah!” I replied and we both burst out laughing together. Soon we lit up our cigarettes while letting out our unanimous billows of smoke through our grins, teeth and nostrils as we hugged each other. “So you’re screwing Hasina these days…eh!” he informed me. Rather than asking me. No Joseph I replied. Which also was the truth. “It is she, and I love her” I said. Realizing this for the first time, myself…and I received all the answers that I needed from my life that night… “Now would you like to press that button for ground floor! Or are we gonna stand here in this elevator for all night long?” I said.. PLEASE VIEW LARGE Here’s the thought: “what would it be like to enter an elevator and get all of lifes questions answered…. you know the old fashion type of elevator.. with the pull metal door that perhaps now you only find in freight elevators… I have been and will be working on a images that I plan to use as a series for sale as art and as a book. ;) a little play time… Like Water for Chocolate’s full title is: Like Water for Hot Chocolate: The phrase “like water for chocolate” comes from the Spanish como agua para chocolate. This phrase is a common expression in some Spanish-speaking countries and was the inspiration for Laura Esquivel’s novel title (the name has a double meaning). In some Latin American countries, such as Mexico, hot chocolate is made not with milk, but with water instead. Chocolate will only melt to create hot chocolate when the water reaches boiling point. The saying ‘like water for chocolate’ alludes to this fact. It can be used as a metaphor for describing a state of passion or – sometimes – sexual arousal. It may also be used to refer to anger, such as being ‘boiling mad’. Tita actually uses the expression in the book when she says ‘estoy como agua para chocolate’ (I am like water for chocolate) meaning that she is boiling mad. The Title could also mean that Tita is becoming bitter because chocolate is sweet and water has no taste, so it is literally like water for chocolate.

This reminds me of gummy candies.. I think it’s the color. I was also craving gummy candies while editing this. So that explains a lot..hehe.. I took this some time in the fall when these berries were still on the tree in my front yard. Enjoy!

If you couldn’t tell I like bubbles and water… I was playing around with fizzy water the other day in a tiny cup and I got this weird effect with the water. The little portion in the corner blurred mysteriously or exploded. I thought it looked cool though. I placed blue metallic paper under the glass and used my sigma 105mm macro lens and flash. Enjoy!

I was born and raised in Japan, and the cultures of Australia and Japan are very different in some ways. I thought, “What is Australian life? Beaches, surfing, football, Hills hoist…” One of the ideas was meat pies. / I know many Australians love tomato sauce. My friend and I laughed together when we found out that she has a big bottle of tomato sauce and I have a soy sauce bottle of about the same size!! / How to paint “Meat Pie” is in the art amgazine”Fine Art & Decorative Painting” Vol 16 No 11!!
