  • This abstract draft horse reminds me of a work horse my Granddad had when I was a kid, which was half of the team he used to pull the hay wagon. In those days, we still harvested the hay loose with pitchforks and loaded a huge pile on a wooden wagon with iron wheels. The horse was named Giant, and he was so gentle that five of us kids used to ride him bareback at the same time with just a rope looped around his lower jaw, Indian style. FEATURED IN: /

  • Squared Triangles

  • Sometimes I wish I could bring paintings to life.

  • Please forgive a little self indulgence here… After uploading the original un-retouched shot of this earlier, as a challenge entry for Music of the Spirit, I decided to have a play around with it and deep etch out the rather cluttered background and paint out the mic stand to make it into a more ‘timeless’ looking image. I don’t usually like pix of myself, but I have to say, I think this one doesn’t look too bad now, in a generic/English folk tradition sort of way. I will leave the original as the challenge entry.

folk – information provided by wikipedia:

Folk art describes a wide range of objects that reflect the craft traditions and traditional social values of various social groups. Folk art is generally produced by people who have little or no academic artistic training, nor a desire to emulate "fine art", and use established techniques and styles of a particular region or culture. Along with painting, sculpture, and other decorative art forms, some also consider utilitarian objects such as tools and costume as folk art. Antique folk art is distinguished from traditional art in that while it is collected today based mostly on its artistic merit; it was never intended as a category to be art for art’s sake. Examples include: weathervanes, old store signs and carved figures, itinerant portraits, carousel horses, fire buckets, painted game boards, cast iron doorstops and many other similar lines of highly collectible "whimsical" antiques.
