views: 964 / favs: 10 I made a new little friend for my crane in Born from the Hand. This was folded with a 6×6mm piece of paper, with tweezers and pins, resulting in a crane with wings 2.5mm long. As I hold my creation, I feel like a God; I am the creator; I’ve created a life form so sharp and vulnerable in comparison to my hand. We can only understand size, fragility and significance when we compare two things. When we think, for example, how big the world is, we’re like tiny specks of sand, or even atoms, to the eyes of a God holding the earth in his palm. It took 30 shots before getting one which was somewhat satisfying. Taken on April 7, 2008 with an Olympus FE-220. Medium – Pencil drawing on A1 size Kent cartridge paper. Art & Design theme Extension of the Senses of Man (Woman) / Always had a passion for direct observational drawing/painting from life/nature, especially to observe and study the human figure/form/anatomy. / The skin is our largest sensory organ and requires the extension of clothing for its protection against the environmental elements. Thinly draped clothing veiled over the human form provides ample study of soft falling movements along body lines, flowing shapes & patterns etc. I wanted to explore the human form/skin/clothing outdoors in the natural environment as apposed to life models posing in a protective drawing room set-up that I had been so far exposed to. / / Process: / Stage 1) Exploring the extension of the senses by exposing the human form/skin/clothing to the natural physical elements of water, air and earth/sand at a public beach landscape and documenting this through the photographic medium. Two fellow art students modelled for me in loose light negligee clothing. Stage 2) From there I developed a B&W photographic series learning several darkroom manipulation techniques in the process. Stage 3) From the resultant photographic imagery (on the human structure, female shapes and forms, skin & cloth exposured to the natural elements of water, wind/air, earth/sand/rock in the landscape) I further explore and study the inherent structure and ‘dynamics’ of several images and produce several drawings. / / I think my two fellow art student models totally enjoyed the creative photographic documentation experience, even though they got cold, wet and buried in sand, and I, the photographer stayed dry!

I folded this bird while RB was “enjoying a brief hiatus” today (July 3, 2008), from a 15×15mm piece of paper that I colored with a gold pen; didn’t want to get too small otherwise I would need a smaller egg. I stuck the tail to the inside of the egg shell with double sided tape. Here’s to a moment of excitement when opening a little present! views: 210 / favs: 9 My origami calendar The Loch Ness monster is one of the most famous examples of cryptozoology and has been affectionately referred to by the nickname Nessie Source: Wikipedia So back when I was doing my internship in London, that mobii decided to throw another challenge at me despite that I was busy and didn’t have time :P I also couldn’t come up with a clever idea for a long time; I don’t simply like to fold something small and snap a photo of it; I like to create a scenario. Last night in my sleep an idea occured to me and today I did some experiments with glass bottles and flashlights to create some watery effects. I was afraid I would have trouble with this as a standard camera is typically no good under dim light; but I actually didn’t spend too much time on this; and it was rather fun. Perhaps not the most dramatic but I can’t help it because I don’t have a good camera and my “studio” is very small :o) / / For me it’s more about the origami and the concept anyways. / / Nessie was folded from a 6×6mm piece of paper. Taken Nov. 4, 2009 with an Olympus FE-340 Views: 149 / Favs: 13 My origami calendar / / In honour of the 11th day of the 11th month; the day that recalls the end of World War I, I fold 11 poppies from 15×15mm pieces of paper. The cross is also made from paper. Remembrance Day – also know as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day – is a day to commemorate the sacrifice of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918. Source: Wikipedia The poppy’s significance to Remembrance Day is a result of Canadian military physician John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields”. This poem has also been adapted as a song: In Flanders fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses, row on row / That mark our place; and in the sky / The larks, still bravely singing, fly / Scarce heard ‘mid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago / We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow / Loved and were loved, and now we lie / In Flanders fields.
