  • Quite Contrary!
    by thickblackoutline

    US$4.56–US$121.60

Vector Artwork / Contrary means: opposite in nature or character, and unfavorable or adverse – which i think are all quite fitting for yet another un-”sunshine and lolliepops” piece. At first glace, it does look all nice, and its really not! Consider a Dragon Snail good luck in your garden as it leaves a trail of diamonds, careful he doesn’t burn the place down. Excellent source for fire outdoors, favourite food: lotus flowers Found this one a bit more challenging for content – i still think it could use some more “groud cover” as plentiful as in: / I found Alice easier for ideas, as its a party, and there’s lots of things to have/take ;) / This one took around 2 days quicker, but is just in the garden…. perhaps some more garden impliments? it really needs more stuff, let me know if you have any ideas, and i’ll add them in. / Alternative Title: Mary mary why ya buggin’? (lol) /

Stock Photo Credit: / Model / Background Also used various Photoshop brushes and filters to create lightning, rain and light Once again I was delighted to be Bubblemailed by another fantastic poet, who brought my attention to a poem she had wrote that made her think of this piece of art.* Storm by binjy accompanies this artwork beautifully: Storm With clouds boiling fiercely in soft cloaks of grey, / and the light of the gods in the sky- / I bared my soul to the force of the night, / and wished the past year goodbye. A turbulent year, reflected by storm , / with power, excitement and pain. / With coolness refreshing, like breezes in summer. / With tears like the sweet fall of rain. The winds carrying scents of some interesting place, / bring sand grains to prickle the skin of my face. / So has the year gone. The exquisite pleasure, / shining like lightning; a transient treasure, / now lost in the grey cloak’ed clouds.

  • Asteroids was a video arcade game released in 1979 by Atari Inc. It was one of the most popular and influential games of the Golden Age of Arcade Games. The objective of Asteroids was to score as many points as possible by destroying asteroids and flying saucers. The player controlled a ship that could rotate left and right, fire shots straight forward, and thrust forward. The player could also send their ship into hyperspace, causing it to disappear and reappear in a random location on the screen (with the risk of self-destructing or appearing on top of an asteroid). Each stage started with a few asteroids drifting in random directions on the screen. Objects wrapped around the screen edges. As the player shots asteroids, they broke into smaller asteroids which frequently moved faster and were more difficult to hit. Smaller asteroids also scored higher points. Periodically, a flying saucer appeared on one side of the screen and moved across to the other before disappearing again. There was a minimalist soundtrack featuring a memorable deep-toned electronic “heartbeat”, which quickened as the asteroid density was reduced by the player’s fire. Once the screen had been cleared of all asteroids and flying saucers, a new set of large asteroids appeared. The number of asteroids increased each round up to a maximum of twelve. The game was over when the player had lost all remaining lives.

This is a little further on from where I live, but a short bike ride around the bay. There never seems to be anyone in these boats except teems of Seagulls, Pelicans and other bird life. I would hate to be hopping in and sitting down after they have been hanging out there. Loads of pressies left behind I imagine. Enjoy!

  • Rockhopper Penguin This species of penguin occurs in subantarctic waters of the western Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as around the southern coasts of South America. The Southern Rockhopper Penguin is classified as Vulnerable species by the IUCN. Its population has declined by about one-third in the last thirty years. Their common name refers to the fact that unlike many other penguins which negotiate obstacles by sliding on their bellies or by awkward climbing using their flipper-like wings as aid, Rockhoppers will try to jump over boulders and across cracks.

  • Oil on shale. This painting is currently featured on my blog, The Flying Trilobite as the banner for 2008. Trilobites have fascinated me since I was a child. During my university years, they began creeping into my artwork again, occasionally with bat, dragonfly or butterfly wings. One of the things about artmaking that compels me, is that as human beings we have a tremendous capacity for imagining things that never were, and may never be. This is a beautiful gift (so long as we don’t confuse imagination with reality!), and digging deep into Earth’s prehistoric past fires up my imagination… ...And out come trilobites with faulty anatomy. One last note: painting on shale is not fit for expensive brushes. You can see more paintings on shale at The Flying Trilobite .
