Tropical butterflys, not native to Oregon. These came from Costa Rica. Because they are not native to Oregon, they can’t release them at the end of the display. Because the Portland Zoo is not outfitted to support them year round, they destroy them when the season is over.

I took my daughter to the Ijams Nature Center today. It is located in Knoxville, Tennesee. There are literally hundreds of acres to explore, and many different nature trails….. Took this awhile back as I was waiting for my wife to come out of a store. I could see this little sparrow and it’s like we were playing hide and seek in this tree until I caught him along the trunk in this opening , thought it looked pretty cool the way it turn out. / Better seen full screen.

Found this little fella at the Raptor Center in NC. All the birds that are there are being rehabilitated for release when able. I so wanted to swat this damn insect with my shoe!! Just to keep it still for a moment!! I spent the better part of an hour following this gorgeous dragon around – as I’d focus and check the composition, he’d fly off. Well I finally got 3 decent pics!! As is. Nikon D80 / Nikkor 105 AF-S VR Micro / f/13; 1/60; ISO 100; On Camera – Flash on TTL (to freeze any movement and to get a catchlight). And another one I got:
