  • This was just a lucky catch. My wife got some tulips for her birthday and I took one out as the sun was setting to try a get a nice shot. I put the vase down & as soon as I turned my back I heard the hummer behind me, I turned back around and had time to get off one shot before she realized she wasn’t interested in tulips. / Captured in Cave Creek, Arizona, with a Canon 20D. • So inspired: you probably know the lyrics of Frank Sinatra’s song, Fly me to the moon: Fly me to the moon / And let me play among the stars / Let me see what spring is like / On Jupiter and Mars / In other words, hold my hand / In other words, darling kiss me. Fill my life with song / And let me sing forevermore / You are all I hope for / All I worship and adore / In other words, please be true / In other words, I love you. / / / /

  • In quiet light, a golden glow / lasting a hundred perfect heartbeats… Artist’s notes: I have had the wonderful chance of seeing herons actually sunning themselves like this. In fact, there was one day that absolutely struck me with awe about the playfullness of these birds. I was working with a sheetrock crew, and the house we were at was on the banks of the Columbia river. We’d had a series of strange weather incidents in the valley, all of which flooded the river, and actually made a huge mess of it with countless trees/logs, branches, etc. being swept down the mountains and into the water. So for a couple of days, there was an endless log jam floating down the river. I was taking a break at the house during one of those days, and noticed herons standing on the logs floating down the river. They had their wings held out like in my picture above, and they were facing the sun. They would float down just so far, then turn and fly back up river. Next thing you know…here they’d come again… on a new log. All day long these herons kept repeating that cycle, catching rides on the logs while they could…and sunning themselves in the process. I thought that was so interesting and cool. Plus, I love herons anyway…so, it just seemed fitting to add one to this piece. :) (Original, 11×17 300dpi) / FULL VIEW RECOMMENDED* —-—- Stock Credits: model: mjranum-stock http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com/art/Little-Black-Goth-5-59785430 / Boat and water: sxc.hu http://www.sxc.hu/photo/937674 / wing brushes: faeth-design http://faeth-design.deviantart.com/art/Wing-Brush-74055731 / textures: my own ©2007-2008 Aimee Stewart, Foxfires / My artwork and photos do not belong to the public domain

  • A compilation of my familiar egrets pasted in Photoshop against kind of an angry “fraced” sky, with water added using Flood. In this one I did the egrets reflection in a separate image in Photshop, to see how that would work out. I like the results. The sky was an actual photo that I used Fractilious software to enhance. Hope you do too. Hope you like! Add me to your watch list now / My Bubblesite / Copyright © by Lenz Photo Shop, All Rights Reserved. • Capt. John Davis and Bombardier Lt. Carl Thompson are walking passed their bird to meet the rest of the boys for a few beers. Both can faintly hear music and laughter of men spilling from a tent near the end of the runway. Davis looks back into the setting sun, listens to the big radial engines still ticking from an earlier test flight. The distinct smell of burnt oil still lingers in the air. / “God I love that smell” he thinks to himself. / He gazes down upon the puddles of oil underneath the port and starboard engines. / “Hey, does it look like engine one is leaking more than usual?” John asks, turning to Carl who had his half smoked cigarette in the corner of his mouth. / “It’s been leaking more since Frankfurt”, Carl replies. / “Frankfurt? Yeah, I think you’re right”. Davis can still hear the screams of the waistgunner, when the shrapnel tore through the entire port side. / “Poor Sammy, he never had a chance”, Davis says. / Carl didn’t reply, just walked quietly next to John, the setting sun throwing long shadows onto the tarmac, making them both look like giants. / Both men knew that tonight they indeed feel larger than life, because there is no mission tonight.
