As per the title, this is a ‘Cairns Birdwing’ butterfly (male I believe). I loved the colour and also the fact that he’s actually quite large (think length of your hand from fingertip to wrist). Enjoy!

There were heaps of these little white cabbage moths/butterflies hanging out in the back yard today. I had a nice chance encounter with one of them.

This work has been featured in the Redfield Plugins Group and the Colour me a Rainbow Group ….....thanks so much to the moderators….... this one was inspired by a book i have on insects i was looking at it and thought they looked drab so i want to jazz them up a bit and so being influenced by Andy Warhol and some tiles i have in the shed lol see its already so convoluted ,but anyway it all came together in my wacky brain and this is the outcome ,,,,,,,,, firstly i sketched them then added colour by following the book i used corel brushes as usual got impasto in there for depth and then put them together Warhol style , i wanted some deep texture so into photoshop and played there with layers and filters till i got something i liked….... There were lots of these butterflies on some thistle blossoms in a ditch along a country road in northeast Iowa. My little nieces have always called butterflies, flutterbies – - – that’s where I came up with the title. Featured in Butterlies, Skippers and Moths.

Its been 5 years since i have seen butterflies here and this morning five of them four normal browns, which i will post pics of soon. / this darker one appeared, they were all having a good feed off of my jonquils and daphne plants. / If you look hard enough you can see him/her putting its tongue back in after having it stretched all the way out into the flower below. / taken on Sony A200.. / 55-200 lens / F/stop 5.6 / App 5.6 / ISO 100 / Focal length 200m /
