As per the title, this is a ‘Cairns Birdwing’ butterfly (male I believe). I loved the colour and also the fact that he’s actually quite large (think length of your hand from fingertip to wrist). Enjoy!

I would like to say I was waiting patiently for this shot, but in reality I had to rush knowing the dragon fly would wisk away any second. Actually, the insects were out in full force and I found many who inconspicuously, and much to my delight, appeared in my other shots as well.

These are actually not poplar trees but the nesting colonies of the sociable weavers in the Kalahari desert. The weaver birds build their nests in high trees or in this case man made poles. The nesting material is harvested by local farmers to be sold as an industrial fire retardant and gets it’s color from the nearby Red dunes This image shows a detail. oil on canvas / 120×80 cm / original sold
