“Three Susans”, is a testament to the beauty of autumn’s, Black-eyed Susans. It seems the blooms never really decide whether to be yellow, or orange. But in the end it doesn’t matter… they are gorgeous. Three Susans, is done on watercolor paper. The basic color scheme is painted in with watercolor and markers, the finishing is done with color pencil. I used many shades of purple for the background that lends the piece a startling, yet strangely subtle contrast. A three some of pretty Black Eye Susan’s basking in the early evening light. I took this picture in July of 2008 at a little known nature preserve in Northwest Indiana at least when I go there’s never anyone there LOL just the way I like it. This is the photo that won first prize in the Canon Photo Comp “Still Life” theme in the latest issue of the Australian magazine, Digital Photo + Design, out this week. Not only did it get a double page spread but I also won a Canon EOS 500D single lens SLR kit. As I currently have the EOS 400D and 40D I am over the moon. Now I can give my daughter my 400D. She’s over the moon too. This will be her first digital SLR. Canon EOS 350D.
